It is not weight that counts. It is the displacement of the ship.

A heavy hollow ship that displaces more weight of water than its own weight will float. Even ships made from concrete will float.

Just because an item sinks in water it is not necessarily destined to hit the bottom.

A sinking item displaces water. This means the weight of the object forces a certain amount of water out of the way.

If this volume is greater than the volume of the object then it will sink until it hits the bottom or the water pressure increases to apply more force.

A big steel ship with begin to sink, however it is not so heavy compared to its size that it will displace more water than all the space below decks.

Ships made out of steel just as ships made out of wood do not sink because of pockets of air localized in the hull in strategic places. These pockets in the hull displace the weight of the ship across the entire frame making it float.

becus it is hollow, inside that space is full of air, makeing the ship less dense tha the water thus abel to float. (try filling a bowl with water then make a ball out of clay drop it in the water, now make a minni bowl shape out of that same ball now drop it in the water, it is the same princible with iorn ships!

because it is not made of a giant chunk of steel. Because it is mostly hollow on the inside it is lighter than the same amount of water that it displaces.
