I have a 7 year old who has never flown before and I'm trying to think up as many tips to avoid or clear up the pressure that will build in her ears. I will have her chew gum during take off and landing and take sips of water to help her swallow. But what else is easy for kids to do to help this? I really dont want her to complain while walking around disney world...

i believe the chewing gum and sipping water is about all you can do (besides all advice mentioned above). My mom would have be chew gum and it always seemed to work. I am sure she will be fine and have a wonderful time on vacation!

Besides chewing gum and sipping water.. Sucking lollipops or Pacifiers will help, as well as holding your nose and swallowing.

Try NOT to get a seat over the wing, and a window seat is best -

I just had a bout of Vertigo due to pressure from a 12 hour trip. It took nearly a month to clear.

Back a long time ago when flying was an adventure not a bus with wings the Air Hostess ( you could call them that then) would pass out hard candy to suck on before departure. I think that I would try for one of those gusher type candy, rather than chewing gum.

Acually it is called ear popping but anyways here's my opinion. When I fly, I chew gum. It doesn't fully decrease the pressure but since your ears are popped, you can't hear the engine as much or anything else so it is easier to fall asleep. And when you land, there is no more pressure. So there is nothing to worry about.

well i know there's medications to take but not sure you're into that, dramamine and such. otherwise, you've got it covered except for teaching her how to pop her ears (ie. yawning or pretend yawning, holding your nose and blowing, gently).
