Like the Coast Guard. They are different from the Navy because they are not based on combat. What other groups or branches are there like this?

Sorry if I came off wrong...I just watched the movie The Guardian, and they mentioned that they were different the the Navy because of that. I am not looking into what I want to join at all...it was just a question. Thanks.

Your assumption is incorrect. The Coast Guard was Deployed to Vietnam and currently deployed in the ME. AND, IF you think "Drug Smugglers" want to be captured peacefully, you are not think right either.
Try "The Boy Scouts".

Ever seen a Coast Guard cutter? That's a pretty big Naval cannon on that deck. Admittedly the Coast Guard does do search and rescue work. But, ask any of the drug runners in our Federal prisons if the Coast Guard's drug interdiction program isn't the use of combat arms and they will admit the Coasties can be downright nasty with their weapons.
The other branches of the military do search and rescue work as well. Right now the Mississippi River is being searched for mortal remains by Navy divers after the collapse of that bridge on I35West in the Twin Cities area. An Air Force Reserve helicopter delivered critical drilling equipment to that mine disaster near Huntington, Utah. Members of the National Guard have spent almost as much time in disaster recovery and assistance as they have in combat. There's stories every week about some branch of our military performing life-saving rescue work. But, there are no "non-combat" branches.

The coast guard is a combat branch. They will protect the borders with deadly force if necessary. The Army has hundreds of different jobs and some of them are guaranteed that you will do nothing but sit on a base but the promotions are as good. Some jobs I have seen are, Clothing repair/washings specialist, Admin, cooks(if you don't get reassigned. Then there are some really good branches like Military Intelligence. These guys sit around and analyze data and help the door kickers do their jobs better. Your best bet is to talk to a recruiter.

Not true. The United States Coast Guard is a military, multi-mission, maritime service within the Department of Homeland Security and one of the nation's five armed services. Its core roles are to protect the public, the environment, and U.S. economic and security interests in any maritime region in which those interests may be at risk, including international waters and America's coasts, ports, and inland waterways. They are subject to the same UCMJ and monetary allowances as members of the same pay grade in other services.
The only non-combat based group that I can think of that works for the military is the Military Sealift Command which provides ocean transportation of about 95% of the equipment, fuel, supplies and ammunition to sustain U.S. forces worldwide during peacetime and in war for as long as operational requirements dictate.

If being against armed combat prevents one from joining the military then surely being attached to a unit that supports a combat unit is hypocritical...

I'm not suggesting you're considering joining a 'non combat' unit but really, when you think about it, there is no truly 'non combat' role in the services. They're either combat ready or supporting a combat role.

Good luck... During war time like the wars against Vietnam and Iraq, the Coast Guard becomes part of the Navy, something the average recruiter won't know or bother to tell you.

In any military group or branch it depends on what job you have....... you can be in the Army and have a non-combat job.

Coast guard? When they do search and siezures or pull over a suspect boat do you not think those guys are not at full weapons readiness?

You should try the Marines. You may think that they are a combat group but that is just an add campaign. They are a nice bunch of guys. Remember the news lies. Good luck.

no one needs to take a existence. squaddies, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen do it whilst it incredibly is needed. As for non-wrestle jobs, there are in all probability a minimum of one hundred you would be able to desire to look into. Do submit to in concepts that the main considerable objective of the militia is to guard and take care of our u . s .. you probably can help the militia with out being in it if the priority of taking lives makes you uncomfortable
