Of course, Chinatown...

Also, there is a good place in Northwest (Foggy Bottom Metro stop) called Meiwah that I absolutely LOVE

Second thumbs up on Meiwah! Located at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue NW & M Street NW between 21st and 22nd -- started by the former owner of City Lights (considered by many locals as DC's 'best' Chinese restaurant). Also close to the Dupont Metro station - south exit. It may be too Americanized for some tastes.

If you're interested in dim sum, Tony Cheng's Seafood -- upstairs of their Mongolian barbeque restaurant at 619 H Street NW -- offers a good selection along with regular menu items and is just off the Gallery Place / Chinatown Metro station.

Other dim sum restaurants that may be of interest are out in suburban Maryland (Wheaton and Silver Spring) and Falls Church, Virginia (Fortune).

Chowhounds.com has a discussion on "authentic" Chinese cuisine in Northern Virginia that may offer some other choices.

A place called Mark's Duck House in Falls Church, near Seven Corners.

Zagat 2006 lists Peking Gourmet, also in Falls Church, as highest ranked Chinese.

I lived in Falls Church for 2 years, never went to the 2nd place. But go to Mark's for Dim Sum on weekends...

There is a tea house with a delightful little lunch tray called Ching Ching cha. It is in Georgetown near the water. Delightful ambience and of course remarkable tea selection.

If you are in Centreville, VA for any reason go to Siino's, it's got the best hot and crispy chicken I've ever tasted.

Good luck!

Chinatown is pretty much Chinablock now--most of the area has become tourist-trappy schlock.

I like Asian Bistro in Silver Spring and Harmony Cafe in Georgetown.

I second Mark's Duck House. The decor is nothing to write home about, but the food is excellent.

My family loved Harmony Cafe in Georgetown, as well. We're all either vegetarians or vegans and they offered all the meat substitutes we could ask for. Our one "carnivore" friend who was with us enjoyed his meal there, as well. We'll be back.
