If a man lives in, cleans, works on the yard, etc. he's pitching in, he's a caretaker, he could reasonably expect a salary, etc.
If a woman does it for any one else but a husband she's a bum. Can't expect to get paid or even be considered pitching in because women are expected to do free housework whereever they go. But if a man does it, it's actual work. See what I'm saying? Have you ever come across that. What do you think? what's the solution for a single woman in that position?

I noticed that in both sections married people got defensive and insulted me by denying the problem rather than thinking of it in the terms that I put it. I wonder if I need to word it differently.
