my twelve yr. old male mixed breed just lost a tooth... Is that supposed to happen? He has had healthy teeth all his life, this is really weird

It happens sometimes, and can be a sign of tooth decay and other problems with the teeth. Older cats, especially indoor cats, are also suceptible to diabetes, for which tooth decay is common and can signal poor sugar level control.
To be sure of the reasons, get your cat to the vet and have him checked out. With an older cat, there are so many concerns with their health that develop at their age, it's just better to be safe than sorry.

It happens occasionally, they can get loose teeth in the sockets, or knock a tooth loose when missing a jump, or the root could have decayed. It happens sometimes.
Just make sure the cat isn't in pain, that all the root came out (a vet may have to check with a special poke tool, just make an appointment for them to do a quick mouth check). Parts of teeth left in can get infected in the jaw.

No that's not supposed to happen.. You should have a professional check his teeth. Usually the ones in front look just fine, even if there's horrible dental disease in the back. If he'll let you, lift up his lips and take a look at the molars way in the back-you may be shocked by how much tartar and gingivitis is back there! Cats are very good at hiding their problems.

Losing a tooth with age is normal, but sometimes losing a tooth may indicate kidney problems (I know it sounds irrelevant but it is a fact), so take him to the vet for blood tests (urea and creatinine among them) and a general check up.

This sometimes happens, and it's ok. Just keep an eye on the gum to make sure it doesn't get infected.

put it under the pillow my dog lost a tooth and i put it under MY pillow and that chick gave me like 50 dollars so put it under ur pillow
