As a professional breeder, I have had my share of kitten feedings. What I buy is the condensed milk...sometimes known as canned milk. Not the stuff used in baking that has a bunch of sugar. Just the plain ol' milk. Usually found in the baking goods isle. I combine that with a bottle of Pediatric Electrolytes that is sold in the baby food department. I mix them 50/50. I usually don't mix them together until I am ready to use them and I store the unused porting in the frig.

Kittens thrive on this food because the canned milk provides plenty of protein and fat, while the Pedialyte (brand name) provides the necessary electrolytes.

Most good petstores have kitten formula, although depending on where you are they can be difficult to find, if you are having trouble then go to your vet/nearest vet to you, and ask if they have anything or if they know anywhere that sells it...I am sure that they will have something useful. Also because you want the cheapest brand which is understandable since you will have to end up buying bundles of it!!...then make sure it is still OK for the kittens (some haven't got all the nutrients unweaned kittens still need) Again anything that your vet would give out as a recomendation would be a good brand.
I am sorry to hear about the fact that the mama cat won't be able to be with her kittens, but you are doing a very admirable thing! Good Luck!

We cosleep. Basically I roll over, the baby latches on, and we both go back to sleep. Actually, I find the idea of trying to fill a young baby up on cereal or formula simply to get him to sleep longer kind of strange, but okay. I just wanted to add that I have four kids, all of them slept with me as babies, and we have never had any sleep problems in this house. It really is a non-issue. We aren't worried about letting babies cry, we aren't trying to figure out some magical feeding ritual that will keep our babies sleeping longer, we aren't counting the minutes on the clock to see when we should stop the baby from crying it out, we aren't reading some parenting book about some elaborate "get your baby to sleep" plan.........it just isn't a problem here. I am not saying that there is necessarily anything wrong with those methods, or that cosleeping works for everyone, but it personally makes me tired even thinking of trying anything else.

Best formula is KMR- kitten milk replacer. Get the dry powder. Initially more expensive, but since you mix up only what you need, you're throwing away much less than the canned formula. Once you open the can you have to use it within 72 hours and refridge it. Any petstore carries KMR.

Good luck- you're in for an exhausting but fun ride!

why is mom being put down and how old are the kittens? most pet store carry supplemental formulas and you might also try farm /feed stores(sometimes they are cheaper). just BE SURE IT IS COLOSTRUM ENRICHED. this is a substance that helps the kittens to resist disease and is normally provided by the mother.

1 cup of warm water mix with an egg yolk and 1/4 cup of dry milk. It will keep in the fridge for about three days.
