I am expecting in October, and we have cats. I have the nursery set up for the most part, but the cats like to get on the changing table and play. I am so tired of running in and out of there NOW to get them off...I'll be too wore out when the baby gets here! What can I do that won't harm the cats, baby or the furniture to keep them off!?!

Help me! Im only 21 and I think Im turning Grey because of this!

I can't keep the door closed b/c of the heating and AC situation in our house. The house is old and doesn't have Central Heating and Air...so I have to leave the door open to keep air circulating and a good temperature in there....

--I HAVE A STRONG CONNECTION WITH CATS. I HAD A CAT WHEN I WAS A BABY THAT WOULD LAY IN THE CRIB WITH ME AND PULL MY BLANKET ON ME WHEN I KICKED IT OFF OR WOULD ROLL MY BOTTLE BACK TO ME IF I LOST IT....--

I WILL NOT PUT MY CATS OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE. THEY ARE A PART OF THIS FAMILY JUST LIKE THE BABY WILL BE.

I AM ASKING FOR THINGS THAT WILL SOLVE THIS PROBLEM (THINGS I CAN DO OTHER THAN GETTING RID OF MY PETS) NOT PEOPLES OPINIONS OF WHY I SHOULDN'T KEEP CATS. I HEAR THAT ENOUGH FROM FAMILY. THANKS.

You know the main reason the cats are playing up there is because it's "new". They have to explore and want most of all to do what you don't want them to. Like most things with cats, if you ignore what they're doing, they'll get bored and move on....if your guys are a little more hard headed....just use the trusty squirt bottle...don't yell....just squirt....won't hurt them....they just hate the spray of water...and will come to associate getting up there with getting squirted.

Congrats on the baby, and for knowing that babies and cats can coexisit. It boggles my mind at some of the old wives tales still floating around.

Try getting some spray that keeps animals off of furniture. I have Hartz...its called an animal training aid and it works quite well. You can probably spray it in the doorway so they won't even go in there or on the carpeting. It works, but you may have to reapply it every so often if you see them doing it frequently. It should be non toxic and has no effect on humans. If you start doing it now, you may be able to train them not to do it by the time the baby comes.

Since you can't close the door, have you thought of putting something up in front of the door like one of those baby gates to make sure the cats don't jump in there? It'll keep the air circulating. Or put something in the doorway so the cats can't get it, but the air will still circulate.

Congratulations!

I understand how you feel and I would also not let the cats out or anything. But you can find a solution, like putting a frame with a wire mesh on the door, like a mesh door, that you can close but the heat will still go through. Or get an electric radiator, and put it in the nursery, and close the door when you are not there to supervise.

Keep the door closed, you'll espcially want to do this when the baby comes, the cats will climb into the crib and either sleep with the baby or on the baby's face. if you can't keep the door closed place an item called a scat mat outside the door, it emits electrical shocks when stepped on. It is possible to train a cat to not go in certain rooms. My ex hated for the cats to go in his room and he'd shoo them out every time to the point if the door was open they'd sit outside in the hallway. Try also spraying them with water from a water bottle when you catch them in there, that'll keep them out, but it'll take time.

First congrats on the baby. Maybe you should try blocking the entrance to the room. I believe there is stuff that you can maybe get at Wal-mart or the petshop the keeps cats off the kitchen counter maybe it would work for the same thing. If it comes down to it you might have to give them up. Either way your baby is more imporant then your pets sorry to say it but its true. Good luck and hope your baby is healthy!! :)

You might want to try the old squirt water bottle, most cats don't like that and it make them hate whatever they were on when got sprayed. Pet Stores also sell like a compressed air that is motion dectected that you will set up there and when they jump up there it sprayes at them and scares the crap out of them b/c of the hiss. Hope this helps, good luck with the babe.

Get a gate that mounts to the door physique (it somewhat is what you're meant to have on stairs besides). once you placed it up mount it off the floor -purely basically adequate that your cat can crawl decrease than it. oftentimes you purely want approximately 4-5" regardless of the undeniable fact that it relies upon if she has concern transferring. And confident some puppy doorways are sufficiently massive for somewhat one to extra healthy via *sigh*. no longer extremely all regardless of the indisputable fact that yet i assume it relies upon on how desperate your toddler is.

first congrats on the baby! I would really disinfect everything in there and than keep the door closed and do not let the cats in there. Cats can spread allot of infections thru their paws and what their paws touch.

sorry, but cats freak me out around babies. you cant be sure what they are going to do, my cousins cats are always sitting in the crib with her newborn... that just freaks me out. keep the cats outside the house, or send the cats to a friend or relatives house.
