My Great grandfather - on my fathers side - lived in Texas in the 1860s and used to eat pork and beans heated up on a fire stove. This was what the cowboys used to eat and the beans he used were Black tutle beans and sometimes kidney beans. The meal would be prepared by boiling the beans and pork in a pot for a long time.
I know this cuz i got a very old book passed down to me with my great grandfathers scribbled notes and recipes. The pork and beans was a regular favourite.
There are so many different types of beans that you should go out and make sure you try them all! My favourites are lentils and soya and kidney beans.
I do like heinz baked beans. I have tried a spoon cold. they are ok. But i prefer baked beans heated in a pan with a big chunk of grated red leicester cheese + black pepper. I like this to be served with butterd toast or over a baked potato - depending how hungry i am.

I think when eaten hot, you can taste the flavors (seasonings, etc) better. But cold, home-made baked beans hit the spot also. You've made me hungry now and I just happen to have a batch left over that I made for a picnic this past week-end !!

Bush's baked beans are great right out of the can!
But for great baked beans try this:
1 large can Bush's baked beans
1 can of Bush's black beans
Browned ground beef
Ketchup
Mustard
Heinz 57
Worcestershire
Brown sugar
barbecue sauce
Syrup
Cavender's greek seasoning
Optional-top with bacon
Bake in 350 oven for about 45 minutes.

I have eaten them both ways! But I prefer them hot and fried up with some bacon on top of the stove. You get your bacon all fried and then you add all your ingredient onion, green pepper if you like it, I use ketchup or sometimes, I use barbeque sauce and some brown sugar or molasses. Any way that is the way my momma said to do it. I can eat it right out of the can. But it is really good with some good ol' fashioned potato salad and what ever main dish you prefer. Maybe some fried chicken or barbeque? I could go on and on.

Hot, on two buttered toast, eating out of a can is not an option, that's why plates were invented along with a knife and fork and sometimes spoon to scoop up the sauce, lovely supper...

Both. Maple baked beans are best (in my opinion) cold, straight from the can. Boston Style though, those are really good heated up.

My mom always warmed baked beans. Now pork-n-beans, we went either way, especially cold in the summertime.

Generally, hot. Warm them in a stovetop pan, put in plate, eat. However, there are other methods. They taste even better if you add a bit of honey/molasses and/or extra BBQ sauce.
