Of course you can but you will have to get a quote from him, get and keep a receipt and if anything goes wrong with the repair, you would have to get him to put it right or sue him. On top of that, if you have another accident, the insurer may invalidate your claim or limit the claim as they could claim that a shoddy repair led to the extent of the damage. It's your choice but you would be better trying to get the repair done at a reputable garage. Play two or three garages off against one another to get the cheapest quote and then ask for a further discount for "CASH". Most garages will give a further discount for a cash transaction.

Yep. It is YOUR car. You can do whatever you want with it.

You can cash the check and even decide NOT to have the car repaired.

If you are going to get it repaired - getting it done for cheaper is always a bargain, right? It really is no biggie.

Goodluck!

If the check's made out to you, yes. Beware, there is a reason he can do it cheaper. If quality is important to you, I'd think it over.

If the check is in YOUR name it is yours to do with as you please. If it's in the name of the shop, no.
