I bought this new car from a car dealership. I'm selling my old car to a friend. I got insurance for the new car. The salesman said I would receive the title to the car in the mail. When should I get the title and under what conditions. I need the title so that I can register my car for license plates!

Thanks for your Help!

Normally the dealership gives you a temporary tag and title and they order the license plates for you. The title will come in the mail, but are you sure they didnt already order the license plate for you? it could have been mailed to the dealership. I would check with them.

The title will come in the mail. Why are you asking about conditions though?? it's a new 2007 car. the title is completely clean.. ..well it better be.

First off.. If you bought a car.. especially a new one. They're suppose to ask if you want them to register it for you and all you would have had to do is pick the car up with plates, registration, inspection and all.. Even if you bought it out of state, then they give you a temp registration for at least a month. I'm not understanding your question??? You have a 2007 car that you paid cash for, but it's not registered?? how'd you get it off the lot??

you should have found out the proper technique to buying a car before you bought it. It sounds like you got a stolen car or the salesperson/dealer "got" you.. I'd really like to know what you did/happend..

When you bought the car you received a temporary owners slip (bill of sale on the car) that can be used to get your plates and insurance. It is usually good for 45 days depending in which state you live in. Your state Dept. of Transportation will mail the title directly to you because you have stated that you have paid CASH.

Check your local laws. In California the law states that all cars purchased from a private party are sold AS IS unless otherwise stated IN WRITING. And all used cars sold from dealers have warranties unless stated otherwise IN WRITING. I had to go to court on this and the judge stated this very clearly. If you have something written stating that the airbags were included in the sale then the seller will be liable. I personally would assume any salvage vehicle would have blown its airbags in the a collision resulting in the totaling of a vehicle since a 35 mph accident can set off airbag deployment. So check out the law where you live and good luck.

You should have gotten a temporary registration/title (and a Bill of Sale) when you bought it. The title usually takes about a month to get to you from DMV. This is the reason for "temporary" tags being sold. Some dealers get them for you and others don't.

? They should have provided the title to you right then and there? Where did they say that had to get it from?!
