Well, the answer is obvious, but you know that. I assume you're trying to make a point. However, if you READ the Bible you will not find Jesus telling people to hand out Bibles to starving families; rather, you'll find him rather in favour of the twenty dollars. That's why so many humanitarian organizations are founded by religious movements: so they can give the money and the Bible at the same time.

Believe it or not, I think this is a valid question. If you are thinking of the immediate here and now, yes, the $20 would be nice, but when that's gone, then what? You still have nothing. The Bible, if read, can teach you a lot. It can teach you about those who've been homeless and in need and what to do. The Bible teaches you to rely on God and by having faith in God, you will overcome this situation.

I see this like the story about giving a man a fish so he can eat today or teach the man to fish so he can feed himself for a life time. To me... the $20 is the fish today, the Bible is the teaching him to fish and feed himself for a lifetime... so my vote is the Bible.

A 20 of course, which is why the Bible says, faith without works is dead.
If I'm starving and all you want to do is stand there in your new Levi's and Nike shocks and tell me about God without trying to help my family, you are no better than a T.V. preacher standing in a $3000 suit asking my grandma on social security for donations so you can stay on the air and continue your lavish life style.

Is the bible made of gold? If it's made of gold or other precious metals with retail resale value in excess of $20 then I'd take the bible. If it's just the standard words on paper bible then I'd rather have the $20. Hey, I gotta feed my family, and the bible can't be eaten without giving yourself ink poisoning or a really bad tummy ache.

I think the obvious, and biblically sound, answer is the $20.00. The poor have to be alive in order to hear, or read, the word of God.
Interesting story: my sister was stuck overnight at a hospital 150 miles from home, no money. She went to the chapel to pray for her daughter and also prayed about the fact that she was hungry. She noticed a Bible on the alter table, opened it, and found $1.00 in it. At that time, it was enough to buy a loaf of bread and some lunch meat.
God provides through the actions of those who care and seek Him.

First of all I don't give money to ANYONE on the street...If they tell me they are hungry I offer to buy them something to it.

If they start getting picky about what they want to eat or say they want the money instead. I walk away.

If I can not buy them something to eat right then I will go to a friend and borrow the money to get them something.

I will also offer to to take them to the social services so they can try to get help there.

But there are too many people who make a very good living by collecting money from people.

So to answer your question I would rather someone help me get help for my family or give me a job.

$20

Bibles are given away freely in many places and they are easily accessible irrespective of status. $ 20, comes by chances, moreover, feeding my family would have been my immediate need. The state of the physical man has a lot to do with the wellness of the inner man.

Psalm 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

God bless you
