Well it is a tough call on whether or not the first religion that was formed was polytheistic or monotheistic, but what is certain today is that in the world today it is monotheistic form that was born from the Jewish tradition that is the dominant that shaped the Christian and Islamic traditions. I would like to believe as a monotheist that devine guidance first came to humanity in the form of a monotheist religion, but I honestly don't know and right now could not know. What we do know is that when Abraham met his God most people of his day were idol worshippers with many Gods.
Good Luck!!!

That would be hard to say. I think it would be easier to say which religions were not the first. They would be you monotheistic (christianity, Islam, Judiasm, etc). The religions were we know the year of founding or the date of birth of the founder could also be removed. This would leave most of your ancestral and animism religions. I would probably say that out of these animism would be first with ancestral close behind. If memory serves me, I believe archealogists feel the basis of Asatru' was discovered about 42,000 years ago with a "formal" religon being about 8,000 years old. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find info on other ancestral religions in this regards.

Able worshiped the God of the bible Jehovah. Even Adam and Eve did until they sinned. So although it was not a formalized religion, there were from the beginning ones who worshiped the true God Jehovah.
After that came the Babylonian religions. Hindu beliefs are said to be the most like ancient Babylon.

Zoroastrianism is sometimes called the world's oldest prophetic religion.
Hinduism is generally considered to be the oldest religion still being practiced today. This ancient religion was born when the Aryan peoples migrated to Northern India and first put their religious tradition into writing. The texts they created are the Vedas, which were written around 1,500 B.C.E. (before common era) and have greatly influenced Indian culture ever since.

The first religious text was Sumerian. (It had something to do with a dragon.)

the first great evil... "Religion is evil" is founded on the ceasarship. or roman emperor's ideology called the Roman Catholic church... this religion was designed to dominate or conquer earth... when christians preach about the great deceiver, and the prophecy of how the deceiver will some day be shown they will look in the mirror to find they are the deceived.. that is how nature balanced... the ones screaming or proclaiming the warnings are the ones being deceived... and they are still not listening so is the power of the deceiver... other wise the rest of us are on our natural path....

Neanderthals seemed to believe in some sort of significance in death as they would place items and or leave the remains of ceremonies in their graves. The oldest homosapien religion appears to have been a rock carved into the shape of a snake, with representations of giraffes and other animals - this dates back 35,000 years ago.
