the state in which you live at the very end of the year?

If you lived in more than one state during the year then you have to file a tax return for each state that you lived in that requires a state tax return. You would file as a part-year resident, and more than likely need to indicate somewhere on the form the dates that you were a resident of that state, and how much income you made while a resident of the state. That is what you will be taxed on. As far as federal goes, you will use the address that you lived at at year end, unless you change your address again after the year is over, then you would use the current adress that you have.

For federal, you put the address where you live at the time you file your return.

For state, if you lived part of the year in each of two different states, you'd file in each as a part-year resident, putting the address where you live when you file.

You always put your current address on all tax returns. That's where all correspondence will be sent so it must be current.

If you resided in 2 states you have to file part-year resident returns in both states, listing only the income earned while domiciled in the state.
