Absolutely.
I believe it was Ronald Regan who said that he wished we would be attacked by aliens from outer space so the earth would have a common enemy and come together as one.

Group mentality- source of every war, conflict, argument, and hateful sentiment that has ever plagued the human race (a mere extension, however, of man's self-centered view of the world).

Dualistic thinking, sans altruism, compassion, etc. is what contributes to ANY conflict or war, including the ones at home with the family. Ego is quite a nasty little monster when it wants to be.

Division by faith is Religion.
Division by race is racism.
Division by rule is politics.
After all has been sorted out the few individuals in the remaining groups become confrontational and fall out of favor with each other.
This last division is called ego.
