Drinking too much water can lead to hyponatremia, a condition where the blood is diluted with respect to concentration of necessary ions. It is not that unusual actually so you do need to be careful. The old idea about drinking 8 glasses of water a day is not correct and not healthful. Drink when you are thirsty and drink every 15-20 minutes when exercising.

As stated on here you can have too much water. If you are drinking excessive amounts of water in a short period of time and not expelling it, then you need to stop. Essentially if the water is not comming out in sweat or in urination(warnings signs) you're headed for damage.
Water is your best friend in fat loss and exercise. Your body can only digest and breakdown 4 oz per 30 minutes, so 8 oz per hour keeps you hydrated. Any water(within reason) above that amount does get broken down, but it goes to breaking down fat molecules within the muscle tissues. Fat is normaly stored in the same area that water will be held, becasue both are used for energy. So if you drink 12oz per hour, 8oz will go to keep all your organs running properly, the other four will go to storage in the muscles, blood cells, and kidneys...Since it's stored like fat, the water molecule will actually start to breakdown fatty tissues and flushes it down to the liver then to the poop chute and urinary track. The fatty molecules will try to hang on to the muscles and bloodcells, but the cells will be full of H2O and too fast for the fatties to catch up to on their way out of town.
But if your body isn't peeing for the amount of water your drinking, you're in the hazard zone of over loading and drowning your blood cells and organs, which is when people die.
So 8oz per hour keeps you hydrated, but since we all wiegh different amounts I suggest the wieght method: Half of your body wieght in ounces per day. This is the safest and most effective for hydration and fat loss. So if you wiegh 100lbs, drink 50oz per day of H2O.

Over hydration (water-log) can be just as dangerous as dehydration. It is okay to carry plenty of water with you and sip on it throughout the day, it is not advisable to drink more than 64oz (half gallon, 2 liters) a day, nor is it necessary.
Negative effects, vomitting--bloating--kidney malfunction.....
Positive effects--healthy skin, healthy organs, better than any other liquid as it does not contain chemicals.

yes, you can have too much water in you...my cousin died from water toxification because she was at a college party and someone dared her to drink 15 gallons of water in 20 minutes...she did, passed out, and the next morning she was dead in her dorm.
Some benefits are that you will stay hydrated during exercise, and daily activities...and don't forget the heat...it's also good for your skin...it mosturizes it.

there aren't really any negative effects and the benefits are that you wouldn't really gain much weight from drinking water.

It is possible to drink too much water - but it's a hell of a lot so I wouldn't worry.
And you will start to feel dizzy and sick if you do drink too much.

people die from over watering when they GORGE themselves with water,, ie the contest lady.. sipping on water during the day is fine.. your body tells you when it needs water,, its called "being thirsty".... sometimes over watering during an excercise program can cause problems because it dilutes your electrolites but thats for people(like me) who do lots of excerciseing in a day and long distance running..
