I don't know where that came from because I never heard that before. My dog has sleeped with me since she was a puppy and I never had any problems, she only wakes me up when she has to go outside to drop a load, so I don't think thats a bad thing. But I guess if it was a big dog it could cause some problems with your sleep by moving the bed to much or something.

All dogs enjoy sleeping in the same bed as their master(s). They enjoy being warm and dry a luxury not always availed to their wild cousins, wolves, and like the wolf all dogs are pack animals and want to enforce the pack dynamic. I have three Australian Shepherds and welcome one and all on my bed to sleep. These are the rules I set as pack leader.
1. The dog must be old enough and large enough to jump up and down from the bed w/ out getting hurt.
2. The dog must be potty trained.
3. The dog must be submissive to me and my wife. (The dog should not try to lie between partners or lay on top of the master(s).)
4. The dog must understand that when the lights go out it is sleep time, not play time.
5. The dog must know and obey the command “down” or “off the bed” when it is inappropriate for the dog to be on the bed.
6. The dog must NEVER be allowed show jealousy or display aggressiveness toward one person if the partner shows affection. (The dog is the pack subordinate; this must be reinforced no matter where the dog is. Sleeping in the same bed as the dog is a good way to teach a good pack dynamic.)

To allow your dog to sleep in the same bed as you and your partner is a personal choice and there are varying opinions on weather it should be done. I believe it is fine as long as the rules are set and obeyed. Remember you and your partner run the home, not the dog. A dog that is trained and knows its boundaries is a happy dog.

One more thought, I do not believe in hitting or spanking dogs, I use positive reinforcement and show a dominant stance or tone of voice when discipline is needed.

I read in Cosmo, a few years ago, that sleeping with your dog wasn't good for you because the movement of your pets can cause you to wake up often in the middle of the night, which interrupts you sleep. But I think it depends on how deep of a sleeper you. My best friend sleeps with 4 dogs in her bed and nothing wakes her up. She can sleep through anything!
Me on the other hand, I sleep with my little Boston and she's a total bed hog. She wants to sleep right next to me and I have to admit that I haven't gotten a good nights sleep since I started allowing her to join me.
So, it all depends on how you sleep. If it doesn't bother you then do it.

Good Luck!

I would say Not true. Why would sleeping with your dog be bad? Maybe if you have asthma or something but otherwise, it's a good thing if you want your dog in bed with you.

I let my 2 dogs sleep on my bed. It is not a bad thing to do. It means you love your dogs and a dog can tell if they are loved are not,

Dogs are pack animals so sleeping together would be a normal activity. Just make sure the dog knows you are the boss.

If you have a dominant dog, DO NOT let them on any furniture or sleep in bed with you. It makes them think that they are your equals or even higher than you. If they start getting possessive of their area on the bed, or not letting you on, or move, you need to make serious changes!

Every single trainer I have come into contact with said not to allow a dominant dog any furniture privileges.

If you have a relaxed dog, that will sleep where you want it to sleep and does not act possessive or aggressive in any way, then don't worry about it. It is a dog by dog scenario.

I'm with DP. It can be a dominance issue. The dominant pack member controls access to food, good sleeping spots, etc. As long as your dog is well trained and sees you as the boss, you shouldn't have a problem other than it hogging the bed.

How previous is your canines? Older canines can sometimes have scientific issues that cause them to act very surprisingly. i could get a checkup along with your vet to rule that out in the previous i could flow working to the pastor. even so, confident, i've got had animals to unusual issues that have been thoroughly unexplainable in any different case. My canines and my cats have all watched something flow in the path of the room that i could no longer see, growled at empty corners or furniture, ran removed from me in terror for likely no reason. My superb suggestion, in the journey that your canines is deemed in stable wellness. only ask regardless of entity is there to kindly leave, bypass over, flow away, or besides the undeniable fact which you desire to place it.
