Very good Question, I work nights, so I sleep most of the day away, and I hate when people call me and act like I'm lazy because I'm still sleeping at 1pm. I would just like to call these people at 1am and ask them, oh did I catch you at a bad time? LOL

Haha, interesting question!
I think the explanation is that not long ago everyone worked during the day, so it was important to get up early and going to bed early was seen as preparing for the next day. In the past few decades things have changed a lot and now a lot of people work in evenings or nights and naturally the sleeping patterns changed along with that, but I guess people's minds haven't caught up with this yet and hence people still presume that someone who sleeps in late is lazy or wasting time without thinking that they might have been busy in the night.
I'm sure this mindset will slowly disappear as the older generations pass away. I think young people today already think differently.

Good question. I usually go to bed late and don't get up early. People call me lazy but I'm having the same amount of sleep as them. So how am I lazy? Just because the actual times are different I'm lazy? Am I also lazy if I do my dishes at a different hour to them, or if I live in Australia?!

People tend to think that going to bed early is showing signs of responsibility, going to bed late and getting up late seems to go against the flow of what the majority of people do. This is an interesting question.

I hate that!!! I have always been late to bed, late to rise. I am definitely not lazy though. I work part time and I am a full time college student with a 4.0. I most certainly am not lazy. So if someone has a problem because I go to bed at 4am and awaken at noon, they can shove it.

Good question! I got moaned at on saturday. I didnt have anything to do or anywhere (or money, lol) to go out so I lazed around all day, falling in and out of sleep. People kept ringing and saying 'ah, are you ASLEEEEP!?!'. I dont see why we cant be lazy once in a while.
Ive been SOOO busy these past few weeks and it was nice to rest and relax and catch up on some well deserved sleep!
Have a star!

Cause they all just want to make out they are bright & early people that have lots to do in they're lives that are so important! & they want to be one of the sheep & don't want to come across as different & to be seen as lazy. Most people probably get up late because they stayed up late!.

Because "going to bed early" usually implies the person intends to get up early the next morning.
"Sleeping in late" can mean the person is wasting away the morning and not getting the day's tasks done. (While they still went to bed at a relatively late time the night before.)
It's about perception.

Tell me about it. My in laws always go on at my husband as he likes to sleep in a lot in the winter (he works 12 hours a day 7 days a week for 6 months in the summer). It's OK for them to go to bed at 6pm every night though!!!

Probably because there are fewer "night owls" than there are "day people". They assume if you sleep in, it is because you are lazy without stopping to think that maybe you are sleeping in because you worked late the night before.
