Well they usually play pinochle and checkers until they fall asleep! When the alarm goes off the first thing that gets placed on the truck is the keg! Firefighters deserve so much more! You couldn't pay me enough to be a firefighter for one minute. I am sure there is a very special place for each and every one of them, especially my uncle Frank, who just died and the department did everything to honor him! They are always in training!

Some eat their dinner or lunch, some are sleeping and some are doing what they want to do.Others wash the trucks and check their equipment. Your question is very rude,\. i hope your house never catches on fire. They more than earn their low pay.
By the way, they are not allow to drink on duty.Duh!!!

Like any service there to aid the public, (Police, Ambulance, etc..etc) there is no alcohol allowed while they are on duty!!

Common sense should tell you that.

Pretty normal stuff. They cook, play cards (they do not drink), and wait on edge to save someone's life.

Pretty much. But they also have to clean and maintain their equipment and stock up on supplies and that kind of thing, and they have to cook for themselves. And they have to study up on new procedures and things like that. So they've got work to do.

They work on equipment, practice policy and procedures, go to rescue and safety classes, issue burn permits, accompany ambulances to crash scenes and other like calls.
