I don't bash Mormons or any religion for that matter.
If someone comes to my door and wants to talk to me about a religion or any other subject matter I have no interest in, I politely tell them, "No thank you" and shut my door.
But no, I have no animosity toward anyone simply because of their beliefs.

After reading the other answers, I can honestly say that a lot of bashing comes from misinformation and misunderstanding. How many posters are under the impression that we still practice polygamy? At least one person claimed that we believe the signs and tokens from the Endowment session are necessary to enter heaven (too bad they can't witness an Endowment session to see the truth). Someone used the popular verse from Revelation to prove the Bible is complete, while ignoring a similarly worded verse in Deuteronomy.
Other sects are upset that in the First Vision Joseph Smith Jr was told not to join any of the existing sects. They redicule us for our belief that the Father has a physical body, and the minor ways in which our concept of the Godhead differs from their concept of the Trinity. They feel we don't place a strong enough emphasis on grace.
Mormonism is a semi-popular topic right now because Mitt Romney is running for US President.

Dear, there is plenty of Catholic-bashing going on here. And any question that uses the word "fundie" bashes evangelical/fundamentalist Christians. Mormon-bashing comes in at about third place although it may be a tie between that and JW-bashing. Then there's Muslim-bashing, a distant fourth but definitely present. You're in good company, in other words.
What people don't understand, or fear, they mock -- or, they're trying to convert people and think that the way to go about it is to pick apart other's beliefs.
You can either get offended by it, or understand that it's been going on for many years and will continue to do so. "Fair" has nothing to do with it. It's human nature. Respond and defend your faith if you wish, but know that simply calling for a truce won't make this go away. And if it makes you too angry, to the point that your answers do not represent your faith well, then it's time to take a breather from R&S for a bit.

I really don't know your religion anyway. All I can remember is growing up with listening to your Christmas albums at Christmas time. I have recently heard from the news that there are a few sects that give it a bad name or appearance. Christianity seems to have several branches and "competition." The Catholic Church also seems to believe it is the head of all Christian churches by some type of default or patent right. The conflicts between Christian churches and various denominations goes against it's own teachings and forces many to walk away or abandon them. Churches should not ever claim "ownership" of their congregation an it's children like sheep or cattle especially when these people happen to move away. This to me is a form of paranoia and sets a poor example. It's my understanding because of this that many non-denominational Churches are growing and becoming more popular. Why does it appear that these churches are more like corporations? It appears to me that the original moral and spiritual message has been lost in a "monetary system" of a typical governing society.

Honey, ALL religions and faiths get bashed now and then. BUT, that does not make it right!
Will people stop bashing Mormons??
Not in this life! There is too much hate and ignorance around! Too much fear, and not enough tolerance.
People who are hateful and ignorant will always be around to trash-talk others beliefs. People who are ignorant like this don't understand and it scares them.
Just continue to be Christ-like, and keep on enduring. After all, look how much Christ was persecuted, but he endured, as should we...
One day, I truly believe that we will no longer have to worry about all this hate. Not just towards religions, but all hate will be finished.
Just be faithful, and remember that you are a good person. God bless!

You can't change people. You can't force people to think or respect something you believe. However, you can shrug it off, and don't dwell on the bashing. I'm LDS, but I do know Catholics get bashed on a lot. Not nearly as much as Mormons, but they do. When JFK ran for President, his religion (Catholic) was a big deal. Almost as much as Romney's is now. Anyway, just brush yourself off, and don't worry about it.

Hi Erin. I feel for you, but remember what Jesus said:
"Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do."
People have so many misconceptions about our faith. Just forgive them and move on.
The people who "bash" Mormonism (and other religions) are taught in their own religions to fear those who hold different points of view. LDS are taught to have respect for other religions and beliefs. That's why you don't bash other religions, but other people bash ours.
People who have the Spirit of God in their hearts (ie love) will not "bash" us, though. There are many such good people in the world. Try not to focus on those who do not yet know how to be true to their hearts.

Sorry Erin but there's faith/belief bashing everywhere...maybe you looked up the questions about Catholics on a good day, because believe me Catholics do get bashed here..we all do. In a way it's good for us either it makes us stronger in our beliefs or we question what we actually believe in..either way it's a blessing...
There are a lot of lovely ppl here..so hang on in and share what you have to give to the yahoo gang and the world..some of us are actually interested and want to learn.
Shalom

I'm surprised. I've not seen any Mormon bashing.
I have seen Catholic and Protestant bashing on the TV here in the UK, in Scotland and Ireland, especially during football games, but not Mormon bashing.
Sometimes they bash each other so much the blood flows. Very sad.
But seriously, it isn't just Mormons who get bashed. it's anyone who isn't in the majority religions who get bashed. And they do it because they think God is on their side.

Hi, I'm Mormon too.
No, they will never stop bashing our faith.
You must be new here. ...Welcome. You will soon learn that you can either grow a thick skin when it comes to those who only want to be contentious, or you can let their comments effect your testimony. People usually grow a thicker skin or leave YA R&S.
There are some who notice that it bothers you so they start on a kick of asking types of questions that are designed to get a rise out of us. There are also some who are former members and do not agree with the teachings of the church, but don't bash either.

It's not so much as bashing, as I've discussed mormonism with a former mormon friend and it doesn't make any sense to me.......well, as much sense as christianity in general makes to me.
Besides, if I feel the need to bash some one, I'm an equal oppurtunity basher. But if I bash someone, its for a good reason....such as overwhelming idiocy. I haven't had the need to bash yet though.....
