3 men share a hotel room, the receptionists says it cost £30
so the three men split this and pay £10 each
the receptionist then realises that the room was actually only £25
so she gives each of the 3 men £1 back each meaning she kept the remaining £2 (3+2 makes up the extra £5)
as the men have been given £1 back it means they have only paid £9 each and the receptionist kept £2

but if this is true the three men paid £9 so thats £27 and the receptionist kept £2 this only makes £29.......so where`s the other pound gone??????

This hotel riddle has been around ever since Yahoo! Answers was created! The answer is pretty simple. Refer to this site (which I think is the source of this):

The cost of the room is 25 and the receptionist's tip is 2. Add and you get 27. Which makes each man 9. Problem solved.

The faulty reasoning lies in the addition of 2 to the 27. The 2 is already included in the 27, so, the addition is meaningless.

Each of the tenants eventually paid 9 pounds to make a total of 27 pounds. Out of this 27 pounds, the receptionist took 2 pounds for herself and deposited the remaining 25 pounds in the hotel account.

Yes they paid the receptionist £27 for the 3 rooms but think about how much money the receptionist gave back to them . Also £ 3, £27 + £3 = £30 and it would match the amount. Don't count in reverse way bec. you lost the £1. You must count on what they gave on the first place and you count on what you gave back to them and count the amount that you kept. That's it

Room rent 30
Each shared 10 * 3 =30
Receptionist paid 3 back

Now
Actual room rent 25
Receptionist took 2
Total 27

3 men shared 9*3 = 27

She keeps 25 for the bill and keeps 2. That leaves her with 27. She gave 3 back and that makes 30.
