Why do you want to litter train?

Personally, I'm not much of a fan and only use puppypads with very very young pups... by the time they're 12 weeks old they are housetrained. (I used to use litter but it tracked all over my house).

I start using puppy pads in the whelping pen at about 3 weeks or so... the pups seem to naturally gravitate to pottying there, no real training necessary at that age other than an occassional picking the pup up and placing it on the pad if found getting ready to potty elsewhere.

Well i have never heard of using cat litter to train a dog but I've always found the best way to potty train a dog is to kennel train it. Buy a kennel and for about 2-3 months it needs to spend most time in the kennel. Let it out to go potty nd play just a little. Rewards are very important when training a dog also. Remember to give the dog a treat when it does go outside or just talk nice to it and when it goes in the house then put it in the kennel and tell the dog no.

No matter what steps you are going to take potty training a dog, you are going to have to devote time to it. Since you will have use some time and energy....why not just do it the old fashioned way? Who really wants their dog pooping and peeing in the house....even in a litter box? Your home will smell really bad.

Dogs won't use litter. That is why it is called "cat litter" and not "dog litter".
