Mr. and Mrs. Whoever, I realize that the children will be in my care for 5 1/2 hours instead of 12 but I do not feel my duties are decreasing. I will have to feed and ready the children for school in the morning, and I will have to transport them there. I will have to be on call, should one of them get sick, or in trouble and need to be picked up. There will also be half days, and holidays. And you would like me to do their homework with them, correct? I don't feel that a $300 pay cut is fair. I feel that $_____ is a more reasonable number.

Okay-- I watch 3 kids aged 4, 4, and 7. They would like to go from paying me $1000, to paying me $700.
How does what I wrote sound? And what would YOU say is a reasonable number? Thanks for all the input.

Sorry that's a MONTHLY rate. And their seven yr old has special needs, they're still testing but they're thinking mild autism, attachment disorder, and he's already under the special ed umbrella.

I would say that since your time is getting cut in half, maybe arguing over the pay cut isn't the best, but perhaps stating that you need to know what the pay would be should your services be needed during the day, because with the pay cut, you may need to supplement your income - and if you do have to supplement your income, when you WILL NOT be available for the kids. This might even make them rethink the pay cut so you are available throughout the day should the need arise. Come up with a rate that is fair to both of you and go from there.

$700 seems like a lot to me (if it is weekly), but then again, it sounds like you are providing quite a bit of care to these kids. Check what the rates are in your area and base it off that.

Actually, they are cutting their care time in half - well by more than. Half of 1000 is 500. I think you're getting by pretty well with 700.

If anything, write in the contract to get extra for half days, holidays, and if you have to pick them up. I dont get paid for what I dont work.
