On the Big Island (where I live) we are bracing ourselves for the worst... Track the storm online...

Just to let you you know, ALLLLLL the public and private schools are closed on the Big Island. The hurricane is supposed to be a category three. The Big Island is going to be hit. South Point (located on the Big Island) is going to be experiencing the worst disturbance/damage. If you would like to email me (i_know_mohr@yahoo.com). I would be glad to keep you updated. I live here and will be experiencing this first hand. I can tell you where the damage is and if your hotel/condo is in good condition. Hope this information helps.

I live on Maui, but we are keeping our eye on it. Right now if it stays on it's southerly route, then the Big Island will just get a lot of rain and pretty good winds, but if the hurricane goes North, look out, it could be nasty. We will know more tomorrow as it will be much closer to us so we can see which direction it is going. What we do not want is a wind shear, that will push the storm North. Keep watching the weather channel, or pop it up on the Internet, Hawaii Weather, and you will see the weather maps, and updated information. I think you will be fine by the 28th, so you can come here. Aloha.

As of 5am HST Flossie was 495 miles south east of Hilo, HI. Having Gone thorugh both 'Iwa and 'Iniki, I won't tell you Flossie is not goint to cause a lot of problems, but all the computer models have Flossie passing just south of the Big Islands. As of the 10pm news last lignt, the prediction was for catagory 1 hurricane force winds and rain.(74-95 mph) You can keep informed of the progress at www.weather.com (The Weather Channel) or www.wunderground.com (Weather Underground)

We are very resilient here, so your trip is relatively far off. Tomorrow when the hurricane is expected to hit the Southeast part of Hawai'i Island around 5pm, we'll begin to feel the full impact. I'm sure by Aug. 28, things will be back to relative normalcy. But then again, after 'Iniki, 'Iwa, Katrina, etc., anything is possible....

Hurricane Flossie's effects are expected to start tomorrow. She will not be passing directly over us but rather passing close enough below us to cause wind and rain.

Nothing we can't handle.....

Have a great trip!

The islands probably will not be hit directly. What we ill get is A Tropical Storm. A lot of wind and rain. We may not need the wind, burtwe do need some rain.
