you will need to format your hard drive in order to install another operating system,

vista is not that easy to get off, it is a different file format than 2000 or xp, you will need to get old of a windows 98 boot disk, and do a fdisk to delete the none DOS partition (s)

Next your xp upgrade is no good to you, it used the old 98 drivers, and the drivers for your new laptop hardware will not be there.

you will need to get all the drivers for the new laptop, even if you buy a new copy of XP sp1 then do all the updates for xp after sp1,,,

putting win 2000 on would be the same problem "drivers" again you would need to find and update everything...

I have no idea why people say if you get a powerbook you will never go back. I have a dual one and still jump back to my PC when I get home. Apple is not so much better then Windows and I like using windows more. I talked to a lot of my friends that do Graphics too and they say the same its just what they have to use at work. But its all good just dont know why apple user insist that its so much better?
Ok Vista does suck XP is golden why they force you to go with Vista is beyound me. It should be easy, just do a search there should be a picture step by step way to do it. Thats what I found when I ran bootcamp on my Mac laptop and installed windows.

You will have to format your computer and erase the hard drive starting from scratch. This is actually not difficult it is very easy, you will however need a valid serial key. You probably can't use the XP Home that you use because it is already in use by another PC that is unless you get an activation crack.

You are going to have hard time finding drivers for your laptop. I did mine (HP). It took some time to find drivers for XP. What is your brand and model? maybe i can help. What i did was i downloaded drivers for the old model of my laptop.
Let's say mine is DV2102, then the old model is DV2101.
then, i downloaded drivers for DV2101, and installed them in mine, DV2102. they work fine because basically, they only changed the OS to VISTA and called it DV2102.

First of all, you are VERY smart...except that you really should play with a Powerbook for a while, you'll never turn back. But, if you need Windows...try buying a Lenovo...not only are they fantastic but they also still make them with XP. With laptops especially, it's a good idea to stick with what they come with...none (aside from Macs) are really that good...
