Got an email from my mother today making some small talk, also she said "your father is ill, I will talk to you about it when I see you next"

I live in another country from my family and go home once a month. Do you think she is trying to protect me from bad news?

If it was nothing serious why would she have mnetioned it?

then I emailed her back asking her to explain she replied:

she emailed me back again saying.......

"I'd rather talk about it when I see you - do NOT tell him I have said
anything, but just try to minimise the stress!
"

Speaking from total experience, prepare your self for the worst news so that you can handle it when it comes and if it's not that bad then you'll be relieved but still able to handle the situation. Both my parents have been terminally ill since before 2000 and they are still both here because we handled the situations as they came with all our senses in tacked. My mother taught us that you don't get upset until you know what to be upset about. I know that sounds harsh but trust me, she IS (just glad she's still around) RIGHT!! Good Luck!! Hope it's not serious.

It was very unfair of your mother to leave you hanging like that. I would guess that it's not too serious or she wouldn't have mentioned it until she sees you. It may be something like memory loss that isn't urgent, but that she wants you to see for yourself. He's probably sensitive about it, and that's why she doesn't want you to mention it to him. I can imagine that you're really stressed about it, but try to stay calm until you go home. You may want to try to move up your trip just to give yourself some peace of mind.
