Special Forces is basically the American version of the British SAS (special air service). Basically, a group of highly trained soldiers who can also act as liaison between them, regular US Army, and local militia forces, as well as train the the locals. They are designed to fight in a low-intensity war that does NOT happen between huge armies. It's no longer hundreds of tanks and APCs moving across the battlefield, shooting and things exploding. It's small unit ambushes and counter-ambushes, mortar fire, and platoon maneuvers.

Special forces saw their biggest expansion just before Vietnam when President Kennedy liked what he saw and actually approved the green beret they wear, being the ONLY military branch allowed to wear berets (until recently, when just about everybody now can wear one). However, they do NOT enjoy being call the "Green Berets" (We're not headgear!)

Special Forces is NOT all about fighting, it's all about being SMART, tough, and ADAPTABLE. Going airborne has nothing to do with special forces, though SF guys are usually airborne qualified, among many other specialty badges they'd own. SF in Vietnam are used on special missions, as well as to train local militia, such as the Montagnards, to defend their territory against the VC. Clearly, you must learn the local language and customs, and not to commit any local taboos and all that, and earn the trust of the locals, before you can even teach them anything.

The commonly known Delta Force is a part of Special Forces.

Special Forces, along with all the other special operations such as Navy SEALs, AirForce ParaRescue, and some of the Army Rangers and Marines MEF, belong to SOC (special operations command), not the regular army command. As they are "operators", their movements are usually classified.

I'm a military wife in Germany and my husband just left to Fort Bragg, NC. for selection meaning testing to see if he qualifies for Special Forces. Now to answer your question SF is a unique, unconventional, combat arms organization, seasoned professionals. SF soldiers receive some of the best training in the Army, completing more than a year of advanced training in the SF Qualificaion course, or SFQC. They are the most versatile special-operations Soldiers in the world. An SF Soldier is expected to exercise more initiative, self-reliance, maturity and resourcefulness than any other Soldier in the Army. All SF Soldiers must be airborne qualified.Students selected to attend SFQC must volunteer to attend the US Army Airborne School. SF missions often require rapid and discrete responses to unique situations throught out the world. Yes, missions are top secret for causes of protecting his family and himself. I hope that my answer helped.

The special forces are the green berets. A spec. forces soldier must go through a much more rigorous training after basic training. Airborne and green berets are two separate units. The green berets aren't "top secret" they are just a much better quality soldier used for harder missions.

SF is different from regular SM 'cause they go inside areas get a mission, do it, come home. They wear the Green Berets. They go to Airborne School, and other schools. They have only a few jobs that you can chose from unlike the regular SM. SF school is a hard school, they are truly respected by everyone.

They are capable of working with local forces to set up a resistance group to go against certain regime.

In Afghan, even before US declare war against the Taliban, SF are already working inside Afghan with the Northern Alliance, helping them organize them self and prepare to fight the Taliban. (obviously their mission here is top secret, or the entire world would have known about Afghan war even before President Bush announce it.)

You don't see them in TV. All we see is only when the official war begins, all the air raids and Marines. We read about Northern Alliance fighting the Taliban, but we don't read about what SF has done with them before the war started.

neither is somewhat extra effective than the different. they the two receive relentless training that an usual guy won't be able to do in all of those factors. and additionally it relies upon completely on the guy. say there's a a army SEAL who purely somewhat made it in and a SF Soldier who gave his all on each twist and turn or vice versa. who do you think of could be extra effective? despite if, the SEALS receive their training for an prolonged volume of time and pass via that exact same training distinctive situations. so if its further training you're finding for, choose for the SEALs. yet you're able to be waiting. as for reward, it is uncommon which you notice an operator who's what he's for reward, yet once you're able to understand. each militia branch gets an analogous reward Veterans affairs, yellow ribbons, and GI charges and so on. the two receive an analogous technological advice, in my view identity could say that they are approximately equivalent in air and land training, despite if SF gets extra land training, whilst it includes water, it somewhat is a given to the SEALs. it is impossible to ensure how in lots of situations which group would be deployed collectively as serving. the two are knowledgeable on the two factors of interrogation, through fact the interrogator AND interrogated. and receive equivalent training in that, inspite of each little thing in case you're in any Spec Ops group, you're able to have training in this, no person needs you to spill something in interrogation and all communities no count the dept WILL make you resistant, believe me. extra presented faculties will actual be military (specific Forces). the two communities are equivalent in versatility, they could be, and in case you at the instant are not your instructors will make you. who's extra complicated to get into is dependant on who the guy is it somewhat is figuring out between the two, what are you stable and and what are you no longer stable at. and the two have an analogous roles in duty. which contain CT, CA, DA, Recon, and so on. and, to no longer be impolite yet you're incorrect on that final section.. the two have specific duties of their group. and the two communities are knowledgeable in all roles, yet one member would be knowledgeable in his specific place. and to be honest. this could nicely be slightly an ignorant question.
