How is this if they didn't exist then what were the invoices made for and how. Why did you escape the blame and avoided the fact. Go back and have a meeting with your boss and explain how they didn't exist. Let him/her pardon you and make him understand what you avoided by admitting having them. Be yourself, they didn't exist; they didn't exist. Am a secretary and I respect my self by the fact that you cannot force me admit things which have got no idea about, leave alone seeing them. My boss thinks before putting across things to do with me and every staff knows it. Sometimes the bosses blame things on the staffs with no base and don't need to just admit for the salary am giving my professional skill in return. ALL THE BEST MATE

Own up to your mistake and take responsibility for it. Before you say anything though, make sure you can prove that the invoices don't exist. Say that you were thinking about something else and were confused.

Replace the forms. If they think they are missing then the form must exist someplace. Find them, fill them out and replace them. If that is impossible then your best bet is to just fess up. You may not be in as much trouble if you just tell the truth. People make mistakes and you're only human.

To your super:
"I'm terribly sorry, but after further search, I'm sure that those invoices never were received. I can find no trace of them. At the time, I believed they were in the file. I realize now that I did not have my facts straight. I'll try to never allow that to happen again".

My question.
Not knowing all the details, is there any way to obtain duplicates?

Well, life sux sometimes. If you didn't do anything wrong, you better be honest about it. If you still need to take the blame, you better quit with dignity, before they find the truth of your lie and throw you out.
If an issue occurs, it's better not to lie especially if you didn't do anything wrong. The fist answerer had a good sentence to start with... And the third answerer, Serena has a very good sugestion too. I would take her advice.

There's been a lot of good advice given here I just wanted to add there is no guarantee what the out come might be.

I've seen some manager forgive and move on but I've seen even more managers looking for any excuse to get rid of people.

Start looking for a job at a fast food place . You've got to be either very young and stupid, or a thief who absconded the company's goods . Where is the merchandise they are supposed to cover ? Better come clean and step up to the plate no matter how bad it looks . I pray you are just ignorant and not worse .

Well next time start out with the truth and that will help then.

For this time - are the invoices created by your company or another company - contact who ever created them and get copies - believe me who ever created the invoice can recreate it for you - especially if they are awaiting payment!

You would get "blamed for them missing" - why? Were you supposed to create them?

Honesty is best. Grab your boss or supervisor asap and fess up. If you don't - it sounds like this is just going to get you deeper and deeper into dishonesty - and you don't want to be there.

Admit your mistake - and tell them you're willing to do whatever can be done to fix it - as best as it can be fixed.

Good luck.
