I don't see why not. I have two cats and two Goldens and they get along great. When the weather is bad and I leave my dogs inside there are times when I come home and three heads pop up from the couch. The two dogs and one of the cats. It's really quite comical to watch them sometimes. One of the cats will be up on the back of the couch waiting for an opportune moment to pounce on an unsuspecting dog walking by. They're are a lot of fun to have around and most entertaining. As far as knowing how they're getting along while you're gone... I think if there was a problem you would be able to tell if something was up. They're playing behavior isn't going to change that much when you aren't around. If they play well together when you're home it's most likely the same when you're gone. The only difference being they may get into more mischief when you're gone as there is no one there to say "Hey! you guys get out of there." Know what I mean?

Yes, cats and dogs can get along well and be buddies. I had a cat that I gave to my ex-boyfriend who had an older dog. At first the cat and dog didn't get along, but they ended up being really close. The cat would cuddle up with the dog...it was so cute!
I think it's a good idea for a pet to have a buddy to keep him company. As long as the two animals get along, then great.

Before you leave them unsupervised be sure the cats are not too rough on the puppy. Puppy will soon be a dog and able to take care of herself. But cat claws can damage eyes.
I've almost always had both dogs and cats and never had a problem, but safety is better than a vet bill.
My Siamese cat used to boss around the dogs until we got a great dane and her attitude changed immediately

I totally think they keep each other entertained! During the day when I am home I always catch my cat swatting at the dog's tails as they walk by her perch its hilarious. In the mornings my dogs will be laying in the kitchen and the cat will run up to them and start bunny kicking their legs and bitting their ears and my dogs will do nothing, they'll just let her be!. As long as the animals have grown up together i think that they get along and no harm will be done! Set up a video camera when you're not home and see if your animals get along when you leave!

This is a hard one becuase not all dogs like cats and vice versa. You would need to start introducing the two at a early age and always supervised until you feel confident enough that they are getting on ok before leaving them at home alone.

yes i do - i have an american bulldog and a black cat - in a house with my moms and my brothers american bulldog and pit bull - they get along fine - moms also has a white kitten my dog will chase her aroud but wont hurt her - i think it works better when the cat is in the home first - and then you bring a dog in - that way its a normal part of that dogs life - now my dog will go after other cats - just not ours - and my moms dog is so laid back that you cna bring a cat in and let her loose in the house and he wont pay it any attention at all -

Can they? Yes. How much trouble they get into while keeping each other company depends on their individual personalities, their ages (puppies and kittens will ALWAYS get into things more than adults), their access to get in trouble and if this is new to them or not. If this is a new arrangement they will try each other and you!

Yes.
I have a dog & I just got rid of my cat (Couldn't afford both animals) today.
But, when I had both of them they'd always play fight & things.
But, becareful. My puppy (10 weeks old) was a little rough with my 4 month old cat. My puppy would drag her by her ear & things like that. So, watch them.

have you tried a video surveillance camera? the have cheap ones at walmart, I did it to see what my puppy did when we left. Although you can't always see what they are doing you can still hear if there is a problem or not
