Is it true that if you bite your dog's ear, that it will be more loyal to you?

This came from Snow Dogs, and I was wondering if
that can be true.

No its not true. They did that to make fun of the guy because he was so gullible. No, i think that if you bit your dogs it it would NOT be loyal or respect you. I wouldnt be surprised if it attacks you. So i wouldnt try it.

I have never seen a source outside the move from a credible source. So I am going to say no.

Think of it this way - what would you do if I bit you on the ear? The psychology of humans and dogs is not really that different. Yes there are some, but not as drastic as many think.

Also there is a difference between loyalty and submissiveness (which is what was shown in the movie). I also have not found any refernce to this techniques for demonstrating dominance as there are easier, and more safer methods.

In the back of my mind runs the thought: If I bite my dog's ear, I will have to explain why I need my nose attached at the emergency room. When they add this to my already loaded with similar stuff chart, it may be a one way ticket to the funny farm where there are no animals involved.
I'm sure the thought is that you are showing you are alpha and the dog will now be your omega for life.... I like non agressive guidance for my dogs a lot better and don't feel I have to sleep with one eye open for possible overthrow plots by lesser canines.

No it is not true.
Did you know that the content in movies is for entertainment purposes only? It was meant to be funny because nobody in their right mind would think biting a dog's ear would make them more loyal or respect you.

Snow dogs was a comedy. Let me ask you this, if someone came up and bit your ear would you be loyal to them?

I can tell some of you trainers don't have small kids. This idea is from a disney movie about alaskan sled dogs called "Snow Dogs". And I think the trainers are right-- this is just crap.

Please don't bite the dog. It'll bite you when you don't know it! Couldn't you just draw a couple deep breaths and let the dog smell your breath? It seems like biting dog is dog on dog. Most people like to be gentle with feelings.

I haven't heard that one before.. Nope, biting your dog will not make him more loyal.. He will think that you are strange, and mean, but he won't think of you as someone to be loyal to.. Might bite you back..

That is a good way to get YOUR face bitten.

Snow Dogs is a Disney movie. Disney is NOT reality. Do not depend on Walt Disney for training advice.

If you bite your dog's ear, you'll get a mouthful of fur.
