Hi!
Currently Vista is NOT superior to XP Pro because of a simple reason: Software Compatibility! Keep this in mind!
Good luck!
P.S. Vista is somewhat safer. Somewhat!

XP professional vs. Vista which version? I actual have used the two. on occasion I come for the period of a characteristic in Vista that's useful and works extra advantageous than in XP. on the different hand, person Account administration in Vista could be exceptionally stressful. widespread i do no longer discover that plenty distinction (heresy!). Vista demands extra advantageous hardware and extra reminiscence than XP. I think of Microsoft will give up to help XP long in the previous Vista. Your selection.

There is at this point (lack of DX10 and DX10 games) no user apparent differences. Except Vista is prettier and has that screen real estate wasting Sidebar (which I believe is available, unofficial clone, for XP).
I shouldn't be concerned that your new PC ships with Vista or downgrade to XP. Equally there is no compelling reason to upgrade from XP in the same way there was from 9x/ME/2000 when XP was released.
There have been some drivers issues and I admit the Creative drivers for my Audigy eX are rank. Hopefully the new driver model will sort out these issue and should see an end to erratic games and graphics drivers taking out the whole OS (as often).

The Vista equivalent to XP-Pro. is Vista Business. I think you will find all the facilities you have in XP-Pro in this version.
I think the main reason for going with Vista is that Microsoft will continue to support Vista long after they have lost interest in supporting XP. With Vista you may experience problems with some older hardware and software but in most cases you can overcome these problems by downloading updates from the manufacturers web site.

If you're buying new PC, I think we should go for Vista. But if you're the existing XP users, XP is good enough. XP doesn't really have much different from Vista except for 2 thing. The fancy UI and User Account Control.

Robintel has hit the nail on the head, I know several people with varios vista platforms that can't get essential software to run, plus the fact that vista is much more 'rescource hungry' that XP (uses more cpu / memory time) so stick with XP for now.... I'd give it a year or so.
Personally I still use windows 2000

XP is much better if you are gaming. Vista used much of your memory, so games do not run too good. If you want to game with vista, get a 64bit os. I prefer XP. Vista looks good, but the new Microsoft office is different and can be weird to use. Get a really good core 2 duo processor and 2gb of ram if you get vista. I have a 2.2ghz c2d and it runs good. Just get a mac. That solves all problems!!!!

I highly recommend you keep using XP-Pro for now. Wait maybe another year. Vista is very buggy at the moment

until Vista is released with a slipstreamed Service Pack, i will stick to XP Pro
until Vista comes with the new WinFS, ...
Vista is a bit more graphic, has DX10, but is a HELL of a lot more resource hungry
stick to your guns, the novelty is not worth it
