Thankfully I've never had to deal with a real disaster first-hand. I think when I get very scared and can't control a situation that's overwhelming, I seem to go into this parallel universe where I am sort of in a dream (well, nightmare). It's like a "this is NOT happening" kind of feeling and I can deal with it better because I'm like on the outside looking in on it...I do pray my way through it, but it's an other world feeling...I guess if I'm in a true disaster I hope I'll automatically go into that mode -- then have my nervous breakdown after it's over if I survive it!

first off think ahead of time and develop a disaster preparedness plan. Have a go -bag of essentials like a change of clothes, first-aid kit, id and important papers copies, list of contacts etc. know what sort of disasters nature will throw at the area you live in and check with the weather service and news websites for other information. Then keep your cool in the event of a disaster. If you need to evacuate grab your go bag, cell phone and get. be prepared for roads to get clogged up very fast with evacuees (remember Katrina?) but get somewhere reasonably safe, prefereably with family or friends in another town if possible until it is safe to return home. Recently we had a minor disaster when the local Air Gas plant blew up and I had to spend the night in a shelter because I lived six blocks away from the plant and they evacuated everyone in a 3 mile area. when it first happened I thought it was a quake and trucks backfirring, till I went out on the porch and saw all the smoke and explosions happening. then I called everyone up and told them to catch the news, that I was safe and evacuating, Then when the police told everyone to evacuate I was ready to go. grabbed my go-bag and headed downtown to the shelter for the night.
planning ahead can save your life.

Try to survive.
But certainly, I would probably have scream "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!"
Depends on what kind of disaster you are talking about...
If its flooding/tsunami/hurricane that brings flood then I'm going to die!!!!
