Hi. The answer is very simple. The iv line is given in the non dominant hand. This is because, non dominant is less used by the patients in the day to day activites. so this will prevent unnecessary movement and also ensures continuous flow
any stoppage.

You don't, and if you need a line, you get a line where you can. If you can get it on the non-dominant side, though, it's certainly a convenience to patients who aren't too sick. They won't have to trail that tubing around every time they change the channel on the TV. Also, Europeans use the left hand for the fork, but Americans will want their dominant hand to enjoy that yummy hospital food.

Because the IV should be placed on the opposite hand/arm as the patient tends to use that one less than the dominant.

Have you ever tried writing something with an IV line in your hand/arm? It moslty done out of consideration for the patient. Medically however, there is no huge advantage. If you can only get a vein in the dominant hand then so be it.

Because the IV should be inserted into the non-dominant hand. The needle carries some risks, and pretty much immobilizes the affected hand, so it should not be the hand that the patient uses for most activities.

You don't need to know this. It has no medical significance. Most PIVs are placed on the non dominant side as the pt uses it less, and it is less frustrating for them. I work on an ICU and don't even think about which is their dominant hand...I am happy to just find a good vein. If not, then it's central line time.
