When did she have the litter??
My cat just had her litter on June 2nd, there were 4.

She did not eat any of the kittens but the cats eat the placenta, there should be a placenta come out after each kitten. If it doesn't come out right away thats normal. But about 98% of the time, the mom eats it and chews it off at the end freeing her kittens.

Are you sure she was eating a kitten and not just the red placenta?

You might want to make sure .. but in all my years working with animals i have never heard of this but anything is possible.

That happened with the first litter of a young cat that we had years ago--she ate parts of three of the five. The other two didn't survive though she fed them and mothered them. We didn' thave a vet autopsy them but it was possible that something was wrong with them.

Her second litter were healthy and all raised to the age where we could find homes for them.

First litter ?????
Is there another cat in the house ?????

No it is not unusual, but there are reasons.
If the Mom senses they have defects she will usually kill them -- the eating of them is to keep predators away from the rest of the litter.

It is very instinctive for a Tom Cat to kill all male kittens born as soon as possible.

I've heard of this before...especially with new mothers. They start off cleaning the baby and don't know when to stop. They also might do it if they sense something is wrong with the baby. Get her spayed!!!
