Awh. I know the feeling. My cats do this everyday.
I walk in an they are all there waiting.
Cats have a wonderful sense of things around them.
They know the sound of you walking.
They know the sound of your car.
Mostly likely they hear you coming before your to the house .. especially if they are outside.
All of my cats are inside only and they are all still there when i walk in.
They are soo smart.
When cats roll on their back that means they are EXTREMELY excited and absolutely thrilled that your home to give them attention.
=)

As a cat-owner, I can tell you that cats can realize and sense certain people, and things. Yes cats are not as smart as people, but cats do know and realize certain things. Cats have brains that think, and worl almost like human brains. Most people think that cats are completly stupid, but that's not true.
You know who you can train dogs, to work with people who are blind? Well you can train a cat to do the same. Yes cats are lazier then dogs, and that is one reason why some people say cats aren't smart. If more people had a positive attitude towards the intelligence of cats, more cats would be seen as smart as dogs. my point of telling you this, is cats do know certain things if they learn something over time. Your cats has known you, for a certain amount of time. This means that she knows you, like another person would.
Living with this cat, you have taught the cat who you are. Now your cat, is letting you know that she knows you.
I told you, that I am a cat-owner. I have taught my cats to sit, whe I ask them to. When I first started to teach them this, I show them a treat and tapped then on their tail. They sensed it, that I wanted them to sit. Over days, I realized that they were being asked to sit. Cats do realize and learn certain things, and i hope I explain this enough.

Our cats all recognized the engine noise of both our cars, it wasn't a surprise to them that it was us. I could recognize my significant other's car when it was still a block away (the engine had a particular pitch) so I imagine that with the more sensitive hearing of a cat they'd hear it from blocks away.

one of my cats greets me every time i get in the house, he listens for my car and sits on the window sill till i get in the door, he has got to know the sound of my engine as has you're cat, when a cat greets you and rolls on its back it is a sign that the cat trusts you, cats are very protective of their soft underbellies and often will scratch you if you touch them there,so there has to be a great deal of trust for any cat to present their belly to you.

Smell and hearing let her know it is you. Rolling on her back she makes her stomach, her most vulnerable part, available to you to pet. It is a sign she trusts you and likes you.

Who else could it be? I hear the elevator in the afternoon and know it is my husband, nobody else lives here.
Seriously, though, it's your smell. Also the sounds you make are unique to your coming home.

cats learn to know the sounds you or your car make, she will probually know what your car sounds like and runs to greet you, or probually know around what time you come home, it is quite normal it is just love.
