Army paralegal----is English the official language of the U.S.? I seem to recall a movement to get English declared the official language, but I don't think it has been, yet.

The issue here is advertising, not whether one must be able to speak English in order to be in the U. S. Army. The Army is trying to appeal to a different demographic to encourage enlistments in the National Guard.

Don't get the idea that we are trying to start some kind of "foreign legion" by advertising in Spanish. If it accomplishes the recruitment goals of our military to have advertisements in Spanish, it is successful.

If you otherwise qualify, I guarantee you will learn enough English in the military to become a good soldier and a responsible citizen. I have known some outstanding officers and NCOs who were Mexican-Americans, Puerto Ricans, and Cuban-Americans. It makes a guy proud to be an American to have people like that in our military. It proves that you don't need to have ancestors from northern and western Europe to be a true American patriot.

English is the official language of the United States and as such, is the official language of the U.S. Military. For all official business, English must be spoken. However, if a service member is talking to a friend or family member, english doesn't have to be spoken in those cases.

You can teach English to anybody with half a brain in a few weeks. Not good enough for university but fine for the army.
