The Bible calls Christians to give a tithe to the church each week. The word tithe means one-tenth. That is one-tenth of a Christian's income goes to the church. As a treasurer of two Presbyterian churches (a job I don't like) I can say the money goes into a denomination's sustentation fund which pays out the pastor's salary (which is quite low), and the church building expenses (e.g. new roof, Bibles) and other expenses (e.g. mission works, denominational expenses). The books are audited each year and can be reviewed by anyone in the church.
There is also another collection which is taken at the Lord's Supper which is for the poor. The church's biggest financial outreach is to help the fatherless and widows. However our biggest help to those in need come from volunteering at hospitals and nursing homes.

it goes to pay:
-the salary of the pastor(s) and the office staff,
-the utilities (water, electric, sewer etc)
-office supplies (paper for the bullitins, pens, pencils etc)
-the phone bills
-there are a myriad of things the monies go to. Churches sponsor programs for at risk kids, adult day care, youth programs, the use their own money to go to other parts of the country and world to build and repair homes, help orphans, the needy etc.....
You want to be an accoutant at a church. That's great!! Be prepared to constantly tell people how the money is spent, get fussed at because activities can't be done because there isn't enough in the budget (i'll be your fault - you controll it you must have the ability to make it appear when people want/need it)
There will be people looking over your shoulder at how the money is spent and there will be others who have the ability to write checks etc...... Also, often in smaller churches the job has very little pay.
I hope this helps.

The money goes to support the church!
Taxes
Salary
Rent or Mortgage
Utilities
Parsonage/Manse/Rectory
Travel expenses
Worship supplies
There are a lot of expenses that you don't think about!
Right now... our bank account looks really good... but, we have expenses to pay out on the 15th. After that, we'll have about £200 left. We live pretty much Sunday to Sunday, with the faith that God will provide for His people, and that we are to be cheerful givers!
Oh, and most treasurer's are volunteers from the church membership! I was elected to serve a 2 year term, and receive only thanks for my time. (which is fine with me!)

Well it pays the electric, water, cleaning bills. Pays for the pastor's food, gas/car, other expenses. It goes to repairs for the church, charity things like soup kitchens, food drives, etc....

The churches are very fair in distributing the money they collect. They throw it into the air, What stays up is God's and what falls back to earth is theirs. Can't be much fairer than that!

Yeah, I know exactly where it goes.
It goes towards buying children Toys and things to keep their mouths shut from what is happening to them.
