When I was in my mother's womb, I listen my mother reciting holy Quran,
When I got birth, My Father gave Azaan (call for prayer), in my both ears one by one.
When I was in spiritual shape, in the shape of soul, I remember I had gave an oath to Allah swt. that I would be a Muslim all of my life.

I don't remember when I first heard about Islam and Muslims, and I don't remember feeling anything negative. Of course after 9/11 there was a lot of negativity about them in the media, but it didn't change my opinion cuz I knew it was only a few Muslims that were terrorists. About 1 1/2 years ago I started chatting online and met a few of them. They didn't seem any different than I was. Most of them were from Morocco and I started doing research online about Morocco and fell in love with the country. Ten months ago I met the most remarkable Muslim(Moroccan) man who is now my fiance and in about 2 months will be my husband. After we became engaged I started reading the Quran so I could learn more about his religion. I was surprised to see so many similarities between Islam and Christianity(my religion). I then joined Y!A and met some wonderful people online who were Muslims. As far as Islam goes, it is a peaceful religion, much the same as is Christianity and those that are true to their religion live the teachings and preach peace, love, charity and good works. I have only the highest regard for all Muslims I know and they in return respect me.

The first time I really remember learning about it, not just hearing it on the news, would be when I was in a Jr. High History Class. It was in our textbook -- I still remember reading about the five pillars of Islam and I seem to have an actually photographic memory about it and remember the map they used to show how fast Islam had spread and where it spread to. I don't remember anything negative attached to it. In fact, I think I had a positive feeling towards it. Of course, I was a practicing Christian back then and always searching to learn more even at that age. So maybe that's just me.
About ten years later or so I embraced Islam and now I am Muslim. :))

Back in about 1991, when I started corresponding (by snail mail) with a Muslim from the Central Coast, here in Australia. She was an amazing woman, and I came away feeling positive about Islam and the people who practice it. I've since done quite a bit of research into Islam, and still have that positive impression.
cheers :)

I first heard about Islam when i was in primary school. In our religious studies we always learned about Islam and when i went to secondary school i learned about Islam. I wasn't really interested in Islam then but then we started to learn about Christianity for GCSE exams and then now that i don't do religious studies and now that i have a Muslim boyfriend and i am really interested in Islam as a religion and a culture and i research Islam all the time to understand as much as i can.
Always have felt positive towards Islam and don't listen to the media.

Feel like I have always known about it, but it was probably in primary school in South Australia. Would have been during a history lesson, learning about other countries and religions. Attitude was factual and definitely not negative.
