They are strong enough pains that he woke up at 2am and has not slept since. He has already called in work and has NEVER done that in the NINE years that he has been there. He has no fever. He took pepto but it didnt help. Also he has been trying to use the bathroom thnking it was gas, but nothing. Any suggestions??
Thank you so much for your kind answers!

OK, let me add an imprtant detail. The pain started in his stomach and went up to his chest and has creep back down to the upper abdomen. I called the doctor. However I didnt know if it sounded urgent enough to get him to the ER.

wow, first of all, judging by some of the answers I've read on this thread, Yahoo was not your wisest choice for this.

If you are still looking for answers however I will give you my opinion which i hope you will consider.

1) Have him take some anatacids. Tums, Rolaids... basically something to neatralize stomach acid and control heart burn. Heart burn can some times manifest in this way and if it a condition called GERD (Gastroesogasgeal Reflux Disease) then it will not go away as easily as normal heart burn and the pain can radiate around the abdomen and surrounding area.

2) Get in the car and head to the ER. Although it does not seem as tohugh he is having a heart attack (A note in reference to the answer telling you it wasnt because it did manifest as pain in the left arm and shoulders), a heart attack can present in MANY ways, all unique to the individual. Because technically your heart does not have pain receptors, the pain is transferred elsewhere, usually the left arm and shoulders... but not always. Also pay attention to his breathing, color, and overall status. **another note, become more concerned if he mentions a crushing feeling on his chest rather than sharp pain or in addition to it

3) When you get to the ER, let the nurses know that he has been having consistent chest pains, where they are, what they feel likehow long he's had them, what you 've given him and what if anything, has made it feel better. If the doctor's don't suggest it, ask for an ECG (EKG) to be done, just in case.

To be honest, it doesnt sound like a heart attack, and I would be more partial to saying it is something gastrointestinal... but I am not a doctor, I cannot see you husband and I have no way of testing my theory. Go to an ER

With all due respect, I think you should take him to the nearest hospital's ER and find out
what's wrong with him because any big problem starts as a small one and as you described the problem, it could be any thing , a lot of medical problems share the same symptoms,
So the best you can do is to do the right thing by
going to the emergency room because I don't like to play a DOCTOR !
I wish you the best.

Sometimes I really wonder what is wrong with people. Why in the world would you be on the computer asking a question, that you may get the answer to and may not? Obviously, at least to most people, I would hope, he is in a great deal of pain. Why not goto the ER? This is probably one of the dumbest questions I have ever heard anyone ask on hear

DON'T swallow aspirin!! It might interfere with any antibiotics he might have to take later!!!!!

Definitely not a heart attack!!! You would not feel pain there but rather down your left arm and across the left shoulder.

It probably is just gas if it started at night.
It may also be related to his work...if he is used to carrying loads of heavy stuff, he might have a muscle tear or worse, a hernia. I suggest waiting half an hour. If not better, go to doctor.

below belly button is usually bowel...is it off to the side at all? As ovary pain can hurt too...otherwise do you tend to be constipated? Start drinking more water and of course tell a parent or ask nurse at school...may just need a check up

don't sound like a heart attack, or appendicitis. Recommend you go to a clinic Monday morning, as it is likely something that can wait, and the ER is expensive.

People here on Q&A like to recommend the ER and get very excited. A clinic costs a fraction of an ER and is usually quite adequate

Well it could be something to do with lungs maybe, or that gut witch goes from throuth to stomach, also it could be his spine cos if something wrong with spine there's some nerve under presure or something like that it can cause pains anywere in the body...

Anyway You're husband needs to see a doctor.

Take him to the doctor. I had the same, turned out it was stomach ulcers. Ask if his stools have been dark tarry looking (sign of bleeding from ulcers), sleeping more than usual, back pain. Best of luck.

Tell him not to move a muscle, I think he could be having a blood clot or embolism, which is dissection of a major vessel, call 911 quick.
