"Tout cela est de la merde". You do not really need the "stupid", but if you really want it, reword the sentence as:"Tout cela est de la merde et totalement stupide".
"Merde " on its own is the single expletive used as a swear word. "What a load of sh***!" would be "Quelle merde!".
If you are describing what somebody is saying or writing:
"Tout cela est complétement idiot".
"Quelle connerie!" or "Quel tas de conneries" (as "what a heap of sh***") would be better than "C'est con", which means "It's stupid/absurd" or "It's really bad luck".
We should not really tell you all this. Keep your promise, and only use it in your novel.

Everyone else who has replied has offered variations on the theme of "merde" - which is the literal translation of "s.h.i.t." but to say "This is stupid $h!t!" or something like that, French people are more likely to say: "C'est con!" or "C'est con, ça!"

The word "con" is a rather profane word whose original meaning relates to the female private parts but it is nowhere near as offensive sounding in French as "c**t" is in English. It is regularly used to mean "stupid" in colloquial French.
