If it's sun you want don't go to Melbourne. Surfers is in SE QLD which is probably the most desirable place to live in Australia - not many jobs though. I would have thought that Melbourne would have the best quality of education but the weather is crap. As for Perth it is very isolated from most of Australia so most people wouldn't know much about it. It is definately sunny there though.

Surfers Paradise is the fun centre of Australia - guaranteed good time.

Melbourne is top on people and atmosphere. Lots going on and very diverse culturally. Unfortuanely not much use for sun though, but that depends on where you come from in Europe of course. More sun than London, less probably than Rome.

If you are into watersports, a beach lifestyle, and binge drinking then head to Perth. Don't expect much form the CBD during the week by 6pm it's a ghost town but come the weekend it goes off. Perthonians have taking Sunday Sessions (Sunday afternoon drinking) to a new level. Head to Cotesloe Beach for the best of the best. Freemantle, just south of Perth on the otherside of the Swan River, is beautiful place to chill out, more bohemian than Perth.

Can't really comment on Surfer's Paradise never been there but form what I hear it's full of beach front appartments and white folks desperately trying to get skin cancer.

Finally unless you do decide to go to Canberra you'll never be far from the beach in any of the main Australian cities.

Melbourne isn't as good for the sun as Perth or Surfers. Also the closer you get to the south end of Australia, the colder the water will get during winter (depends when you are going to be here). Some people can take cold water but being from Queensland I really can't cos our water is nice pretty much year round.

If you're looking at Surfers though I suggest you make absolutely certain you can take humidity. Many people move to Queensland but are forced to move back cos they can't take it. That said, Queensland is a beautiful spot with some great partying options! It's also an extremely casual state, clothing and personality wise. I love it. Good luck with it!

if you love the sun than definately not melbourne. it's a great place but is just too cold. perth is nice but can be too hot and a bit out of the way of everything. i would choose surfers paradise. even if you aren't into the pub scene it is a great place to live when you are young, you will meet plenty of great people there and have lots of fun in the sun!

If you love the sun then I'd say Perth or Surfers over Melbourne.

I would go to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra if you want the best education. Otherwise it depends on what time of year you are coming. Winter go to Surfers, summer go to Melbourne or Perth.

perth is hot and dry - climate is very desert type-ish. Ocean is very cold. perth is also on a river not ocean front.
surfers paradise - is hot and humid in summer - very tropical-ish. Ocean is very warm - Gold Coast region is on the ocean. great beaches & surf.
check out the best places to study in your field - that is most important.
