I'm taking my (slightly) better half to New York this new year, for his 30th birthday.
I was looking for ideas on where we could dine preferably somewhere with a Times Square view (to avoid being a sardine)
Or is there anything on in Central Park/Empire State Building at midnight?
Does anyone also knoware the shops open on the 1st of January?
Many many thanks.

The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Plaza. It's on the top floor and will cost you plenty.

ooooh, im so jealous, I always wanted to live in new York!!!
1st of Jan there are loads of sales!!!! eeeekkkkkkk, loads of shopping!! (be careful though, they brought in a new law in Ireland about bringing stuff into the country, didn’t really understand it but the same might apply wherever you are)
there are so many things to see when your there, the empire state building, ground zero, central park, the biggest toy shop in he world is in times square, times square itself!, there is tons of things you have to squeeze in!

I think you would be better just looking for a restaurant while you are there!
(p.s, I know I sounded like a little girl there, im not, I just love new York!)

have fun for me
