<>Odds are 99 44/100% that the dryer belt broke. This is a large belt that goes around the drum and is turned by a pulley on the motor which turns the dryer drum. Pull the dryer out and take the back panel off (UNPLUG FIRST!). You should see the broken belt. Get a new one and feed it around the drum and back onto the pulley. Easy and cheap fix.....most people end up bying a new dryer for a $5 fix.

think your belts gone. If you unplug, take off the back you will see a motor at the bottom of the machine. Belt will be lying in machine. Take it out look on the belt for a number and buy a new one. shouldn't be too difficult to re-fit.

Depends...

Some of the older dryer have clockwork timers, which would explain the 'tapping'. This would work with no power, so it really could be anything, but check the fuse/power anyway.

it does sound as if the belt has broke. i had to get new belt last year for mine and i was £15 for it. you can put it on yourself but its hard work !! take the lid off too to give you more room to work in.
the part number for the new belt you will get on the old one.
