First off I'm a Christian myself, and I just have a question to ask. Would you stay faithful to God if you had a traumatic event happen to you. For example a non christian family member died, how would you react and what would you do. Would you still stay faithful to God? This is something I always think about, because my father is not a Christian, and he's been smoking for 30 years. If he happend to die, I really don't know how I would react. I don't know how I would keep my faith if an event like that happend. It's just been something thats been on my mind. Also I do whatever I can to tell my dad about christianity, I don't force it upon him. But I do tell him about God all the time, and he's been going to my church for two birthdays straight. All I can do is hope that he see's something in me, and decides to change, I can't force it upon him.

dwrty, I love my parents regardless of religions. Why would you assume that, I even stated that I do not force religion upon him. But this is what I believe and its important to me.

Nothing will ever fully prepare you for the death of a loved on even when you know they are about to die.
Having a close relationship with our heavenly father will help greatly .
One thing that will help is to study up in your bible gods promise of Resurrection , what a wonderful thing it would be to welcome back your loved dead ones

Well, the Bible says that when your saved, your whole household will be saved too. It just doesnt say how long it will take. Be patient with your father and with God. If he has attended church before, then the word has already been planted in his heart. All you can do is being a living example of how good God is and continue to pray for your father`s salvation. Don`t blame God for your anything. That`s what the enemy wants so that you will stray from you relationship with God. Just have faith and continue on in the Word. God Bless.

My mother wasn't a Christian, am I supposed to let go of what I am standing true with because she wasn't a Christian? That would be stupid of me. She won't be able to help me if I do. And besides. she always told me to be my own man, stand up to others when I believe something is right.
Well, now it's her turn. I will stand up to her and the lack of salvation she allowed into the home. It's not my fault that she didn't believe.
The same goes for anyone in my life. God is first, and everyone else in my family trying to give me a hard time about it can go to Hell. I don't need their crap. If they don't have the Father drawing them into Jesus then they are not really my family anyway. I side with God, they are on their own.
I found out that my attitude for the most part is Biblical. I like that. It's like I am living God's word. At least I can count on Him!

Wow, this is a good question. I wonder this all the time. I actually found Christ after the death of one of my best friends. I had nowhere to turn, felt lost and was so depressed I couldn't imagine I would ever have a normal life again. It was a horrible time in my life and I truely believe God was the only one who could help me at that point. In a way I think my friend let me to my faith, I don't know if I would have persued it if I hadn't lost her, and that is a scary thing. I think that the only way to make it through tragedies is to let God take over and heal your heart. I know how you feel about your father, I am in that same boat....actually I don't know if my father has accepted Jesus Christ or not...he won't talk about it...all we can do is make them aware of the truth of Jesus' love. I wish you the best.

Your dad's been smoking for thirty years and you'd blame God if he died? I'm not trying to be cynical, really, but there's a degree of personal responsibility we all have.
That aside... We are all going to die. There's no real way around it. We can postpone it (not indefinitely, mind you), we can ignore it, but it's gonna happen. Would you say it that God would be more fair if he, say, let you die instead and let your father survive to suffer the loss of his son?
Someday you're also going to die, and there will be (I'm assuming) children and grandchildren who will be equally saddened by your passing. That sense of urgency you feel is due in part to that very mortality that we fear.
I won't patronize you with any of the old cliches, but keep in mind that for a Christian, this life here on earth is not what it's all about.

That's right only the Holy Spirit can change his heart - and you may never know what goes on in your father's heart. But God sees into his heart and God is the only one who can truly judge your father.
Trust God with your father's life and realize that God loves your father infinitely more than you do. You've done what you can do - you've shared the hope of Christ that you have and you are praying for your father - leave the rest to God.
Will not the judge of all the earth do what is right?

You cant force your father your right...the best thing to do is to fast for hIim and ask God in prayer..for your fathers salvation...pray and fast..im pretty sure you know the scriptures...where it mentions your whole house will be save....Ive had that situation in my life before....my dad..he was a smoker since he was 6 yrs old and a drunk and a wife beater... and while praying and asking for his salvation...there was a moment that no one notice but he picked up his bible...( he was christian before) and died within that month...Sometimes i think God took his life because maybe he knew he was not going to last and God wanted him to make it to heaven....another advice...is lend him Cd's or videos about Hell..(people who have died and come back) God gives experiences to people that go through hell and death so that people may believe.

At this point, it sounds like you've done all that you can and should do. My advice is to leave it in the hands of the Lord now, its up to Him about your father.
Its a sad thing to think about, though. And its really hard, as you know.
Also, if you are concerned about keeping your faith in the future, then you should be analyzing your relationship with God. It sounds like you obviously believe in Him, so to be honest it may sound hard now but later on it shouldn't be that much harder to keep that relationship strong. Do what I always do, and put it all in His loving, tender care.
I'll be praying for you

If you know God personally you would not have asked this question because He loves you so much. No one or any material is equal to His love. If you know Him well you will not afraid whatever happens and you will be still loving Him because you fully understand His love, which is greater than anything in this world.
