i have a friend, who is a Christian.
but, she swears like every other word.
And when I tell her that it's "Not Christian like" She basically says that it's no where in the bible that says that swearing is a sin.
And when I ever say "Jesus Christ", she absolutely flips out on me. I agree I shouldn't say it, and i AM working on it. But is that really worse than saying "F*uck you" or "Shut the f*uck up" ror "Sh*it" every other word?
could anyone give me a bible verse, some kind of proof, etc that i could give her that says that swearing is a sin?

No, her mom really doesn't care.
Her mom isn't a christian one bit :-/
Which is good that she's accepted Jesus into her life without really any support from her mom.

I think swearing is more negitive then anything. In life swearing dosn't bring you positive things. You should always try to speak positive things when you speak. You should speak things that will encourage other people.
Ephesians 4:29 tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
1 Peter 3:10 declares, "For, Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."
James 3:9-12 summarizes the issue, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water."
Don't use this to judge her but use it to show her and help her learn. Be positive when showing this and not negitive, like see i'm right and your wrong.

Sin is dependent on the mental motivation behind the action. Some people swear with no real bad intent while others swear and are filled with hatred.
It is only a 'sin' (i.e. she is harming herself) when the intent behind the swearing is bad.
Personally, I think it is always best to come at these situations from a position of compassion. You judging or throwing Bible verses at her will not help. If she is 'sinning' you need to also understand that she is hurting.

I am guilty of cussing.....but you're right, it's not Christian-like. Though it does not say so directly in the bible, here are a few verses that say you should conduct yourself as a Christian with the words you use.....
Proverbs 10:31-31
"The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
"The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness."
1st Thessalonians 5:22
"Abstain from all appearance of evil."
Matthew 15:11
"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."
1st Peter 1:14-16
"As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy."

Taking Gods Name in vain is blasphemy what is swearing and who decides that a certain word is a swear word. A lot of common swear words are now general usage does that mean they are not swearing ? Blasphemy is the bigger sin for a Christian.

Ephesians 4:29...Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth. Ephesians 4 31...Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you... Just ask yourself (or ask them to ask themselves) ..Do you think Jesus Would those words? WWJD. Do these words uplift or degrade. Do these words honor God, or dishonor God? If a person went to a job interview, would they use such words while being interviewed? NO .

In the Bible swear and curse mean two differnt things. But neither is acceptable because they do not glorify and honor Father God.
Also do not take God;s or Jesus' name in vain.

swearing doesnt hurt anyone. you don't feel a sharp pain in your side whenever someone says f*ck. or a blunt knock on your forehead whenever someone says sh*t. there isn't such a thing as a "bad word" because none of them ever did anything to anyone. the only reason anyone is offended by words is because they were taught to think certain words are "bad". if people were taught that words were words, that they just had a meaning, not an aura of good/evil attacked to them, nobody would care.

*sigh*---what ever happened to politeness? Decency? Am I too old fashioned? Aren't manners taught anymore? Some things are just vile and nasty and rude---like the "F" word....doesn't anyone teach their little girls that a LADY doesn't talk that way, anymore?? My daughter and my daughter-in-law teach our grand-duaghters that nice people don't talk that way! Is there anything wrong with that? Religion has nothing to do with it!! Absolutely nothing....it's common decency!

Sweetie, That isn't swearing. That's cussing. Cussing is cursing. God curses and swears. But He can do it because He keeps His word. When we do it, we set ourselves up for a fall. If her conscience is damaged by her verbage, then she ought to stop. If it doesn't bother her, then she can just go right on ahead. It doesn't bother me either. It doesn't make her any less a Christian to cuss.
To swear, that's different. Swearing is putting your words upon something. And if it isn't fulfilled - you just lied and you swore upon the thing, you might be accountable for that.
But just remember, cussing is not the same as swearing.
