Carpet and paint to get the new house smell and clean look. Try some Faux painting effects to brighten darker rooms. Make sure the entryway and front door look very good even from the outside. Not a lot to go on from your question. Hope this helps a little.

Yes I am! How did you know? What I am doing besides painting is ripping out old yukky carpet (nice wood floors underneath) and laying down area rugs. Light colored rugs with no pattern to make the space feel larger. I also hung window treatments, a few pics on the walls (not many) and added a plant to each room. In one bedroom, instead of a live plant I put a large white cylinder-type vase with artificial palm fronds in it. looks breezy and light with the white curtains.
Other bedroom, just enough furniture to suggest home...a rocking chair, a corner shelf and you guessed it, a plant on the floor under the window. Kitchen will be tan with red accents. The red will be on things such as cannisters, a few books and a stripe on the tan valance. All things that can be changed in case the buyer does not like red. Of course, this is a vacant house.
If you are selling the home you live in, I think everyone had great ideas. Declutter, depersonalize, and clean. Light colored or white curtains seem to help a home sell.
Good luck! It's fun, isn't it??

Declutter - get rid of (or pack up into boxes) anything that makes the house look cluttered. Makes the house look larger with more space.
If you are going to paint the interior.
1) A quick paint job of a neutral colour such as cream or biege - throughout. With white trims.
2) Any curtains that are ok - wash.
3) Any old curtains that are too worn - throw out & put up neutral ones to match the new paint.
4) Co-ordinate items such as bedcovers (dye them if you have to) - in every bedroom.
5) Make sure that your lounge suite looks nice. Throws over it if it is worn can cover alot. Cushions as well.
6) Take down any paintings or pictures that are not suitable. Put up one, if you must, but try to keep the walls clutter free as it will make the house look larger.
7) Kitchen & bathroom - declutter all from benchtops - keep free.
8) Carpets - have them cleaned if ok. If not - replace - get a good quote. The price & quality will depend on the market for the house.
9) Tidy up the front & back yards. Even plant out & put some pots around with flowering plants.
10) Have any dripping taps fixed.
11) Tidy up & maybe put up some shelves or storage in the gargage.
12) Clean, Clean & Clean again.
The idea is to present a reasonably freshened up house that gives the impression of being well looked after. Also, showing off space to the maximum to the potential buyer.
This is for a quick & cost effective redo for a sale.
However, if you intend to do a major redecoration job then you should specify that in your question.
Main rooms for a sale: Kitchen & bathroom. Make sure they are fresh & clean.
The first impression is always the front of the house. Make sure it is inviting.
Also, if you have an area to put garden table & chairs in outside - do it. Leave a magazine or book on the table & a glass.
Fresh flowers in vases are always good for a sale.
Good luck.

If you have to do some repainting, chose neutral colors. Nothing too flashy. People will be attracted by colors like bisque, tan, off-white, cream, things like that. Don't chose white. It makes a house look cheap.
As for updating floors and such, if you need to get new carpets, chose a Frieze style. Avoid burbur and plush because those styles are becoming outdated. If you are replacing old tile or a linolium floor, pick larger tiles (12" or so) in a neutral color that compliments the walls. Don't pick anything with a weird design on it.
Paint trim white if it is any other color or if it is wood and looks bad. Also, new light fixtures and faucets; little things like that will draw buyers.

Watch that show on HGTV "designed to sell" You'll get a lot of tips. Use neutral colors and keep it simple and clean. Not too many people like bright colors and giant furniture. Also define the rooms, make sure the dining room looks like a dining room etc etc. Good luck.

Clean out all clutter and personal items.
Paint it neutral colors.
Remove the majority of furniture.
Replace light fixtures, bathroom fixtures.
If the carpet is old, remove it (if you have nice floors).
Paint the front door. Clean up the outside.

I just bought a condo, since it had nothing in there it was listed as immediate vacancy so I didn't have to wait for the previous owners to move out. It is much more tempting for people to walk into a house and think "wow, I could just drop my stuff off". So go very empty.
