There are some extremely fundamental groups out there that think that Haryy Potter is enticing children to become indoctrinated with witchcraft and socery. They site Biblical Verses that encourage the persecution and death of practictiners of the Black Arts. Some have even resorted to Harry Potter book burnings www.landoverbaptist.org/news1002/bookburning.html - 19k . How is this a necessary means to the matter of saving people's souls, I have no idea.

let me guess...the baptists, pentecostals, and methodists are wanting to burn the books....??? I guess that is why I chose to be non-denom because we are more laid back when it comes down to PURE FICTION!!! why cant these people see that this is all fake? its just a book series for kids. there is no support of evil or Satan or anything so why wont they stop bitchin? jeez
I have no clue either...they are almost killing people's souls by telling them that they cant enjoy a book because it says an inept incantation every now and then.
people these days

Personally, I think that this is useless waste of time. I mean no offense to anyone when I say this. The books are fantasy, pure and simple. What about all the other books that talk about magic out there, the witches in The Wizard of Oz, or The Chronicles of Narnia. They are simply fantasy. I am a witch that follows the wiccan path. I can tell you that anyone who turns to witchcraft after reading those books are in for an awakening. Real witchcraft is nothing like they. It is a subtle craft that deals with harmonizing with the Earth and her energies. The Harry Potter will have no more effect on the population then any fantasy book before it, it actually adds more mystical and false concepts to the already large list that is out there about witchcraft.

It's fiction. If someone waves a magic wand and says "Crucio", it's not going to do the slightest thing. Really.

It's strange how much more controversy Harry Potter has than Lord of the Rings, despite the presence of a wizard (Gandalf) on the 'good' side.

No. People go to hell for not trusting God through Jesus Christ. I like Harry Potter. I am entertained by the movies. I don't have time to read any of the books, I devote my serious time to God. But there is no condemnation for watching a Harry Potter movie.

Please don't let the fundies convince you that you cannot like Harry Potter and still be Christian.

I'm not sure. I've never like the fact it is all about witchcraft and sorcery and I have never read the entire series of books. And to you Chris, I would wait in line 48 hours to read the Bible, is there something wrong with that?

they obvisuly have not read the books. having read all of them it becomes clear even by the 3rd that harry potter is a type of saviour. and the final one he dies to save his friends . HP is not more evil than cinderella or snow white and I feel are compatable with the CS Lewis narnia books for teaching about God and Jesus ( good and evil).

If they do not turn from their sins and receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior. If Jesus was their Lord, they would not be fans of Harry Potter. Don't get mad at me, I did not make up the rules, God did,

Yeah. Kiddos are really gonna wait in line 48 hours to read the Bible! And if HP ISN'T about 'witchcraft and socery' then what's it about? Nobody goes to hell cause there IS no hell. If they die, (just like if I die) you're just gone. sleeping. non-existent anymore.
