My church has stautes, i think it is perfectly fine, the Commanments might say " Thou shall not have idols," but staues aren't idols because idols are objects that people think ARE God/gods but instead we have Icons, images that resemble the Person.

I'm fine with it - in fact, my church *has* statues of Jesus.

The prohibition against graven images must be understood in its proper context. Deuteronomy 4:15-16 says:

"[15] You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, [16] so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman...."

Verse 15 is very important here, because it shows the *reason* why statues were forbidden. God had not appeared in physical form at that time. Any statue representing God would have been purely a man-made invention.

Had images been allowed under the Old Covenant, then people could have claimed that Jesus could not be God because He did not resemble those images. But today we understand iconography to be an imitative science which, while not necessarily historically accurate, follows strict rules to ensure doctrinal correctness. I call it "imitative" because it imitates the Gospel in visual form for purposes of education and edification. The Incarnation has made such visual representation possible.

I do, for many reasons. First we are not to have Graven images, nor to bow down to them nor reverence them. Second no one actually knows what Jesus looked like since there are no Paintings of Him or Photographs.Third the main church that has such statues is the Roman Catholic Church, and they have Jesus still on the cross, if Jesus was still on the cross, or in the tomb then Christianity would be false. But the GOOD NEWS is that He is not there He is Risen just as he said.

Ever since Jesus chose to become man ... and the flesh image of God, who is a heavenly "thing" the old prohibition against such images has been rather pointless, as it would act to prevent us from worshipping Jesus himself..

Bible believing Christians can easily tell the difference between a statue and God.

Well ... most of them, anyway!

as a former Catholic myself, I think its perfectly fine. As long as it isnt graphic with the nails accented in blood or anything. But the crucifix or statue of his death reminds us of the pain and suffering we went through when He died for our sins. If we didnt have these images to look at, we wouldnt fully appreciate what He did for us. I dont have any statues of Jesus in my house, but I have my rosary, and some crosses. But thats not the point. Sure exodus may say not to...but as modern day Christians, most people over look the majority of the old testament. Oh yeah, people dont bow down before these statues. I know many people think Catholics bow down and worship Mary, well I didnt when i was catholic, nor did anyone else.

My point still stands: statues of Jesus' death remind us of his pain and suffering. It isnt vital to have one to look at all the time, but it gives us a sense of appreciation

Because the Bible tells us not to have graven images (good or bad). Sorry, you MISLED catholics. The Romans have manipulated Christianity to the point that it no longer is God based. And who the hell is the pope? Some old loser queen that still enjoys wearing drag. Here in Mexico, it's sickening to see all these "devout" catholics praying to the virgen of Guadalupe before they pray to God and Jesus Christ. It's an urban myth! And tell me why the catholic church gave dispensation to the Churches of the state of Chiapas to sacrifice live chickens in their high masses??? Those crazy Mayans just have to have blood in their ceremonies! The catholics and their form of religion is not a faith based religion. It's one of control and guilt. All of you catholics, stand up and become individuals and be proud, do not cow-tow to tradition.

I think it is wrong because the bible states no idolatry and a lot of people worship that statue. Besides no one really knows how he looked when he was alive! Jesus is the son of God not the statue!

Why would it be wrong? The idol worshippers of the old testament didn't worship Jesus Christ. We do. So a statue of Him isn't a bad thing

the only thing I know of that the bible says about graven images is that you are not supposed to worship them. So as long as the statue is not there for worship then I say why not.

hey walk'in what makes you think I'm catholic
