no doubt the best golfer of all time

Someone has to play devil's advocate (no not the pinball machine) so I guess it'll be me....

Is there 'any' doubt? There's at least an argument, so i guess there is SOME doubt.

Bobby Jones - Retired from golf at the age of 28 as the only person to EVER win the Grand Slam. And won 13 career majors (the US and Brit Amateurs were major at the time, there were no Masters).... so he won 13 majors (the same as Tiger) in a shorter time than Tiger and he won the Grand Slam something that Tiger hasn't done yet. And this was done at a time when travel to and from England was obviously much more difficult than it is now.

That said, I'm not sure how you can compare this to Tiger given the DRASTIC difference between equipment of that era and today. Clubs with hickory shafts vs. computer designed clubs and balls.

"All Time" is pretty tough to defend - how would the great golfers of the past due with the technology/clubs/conditioning of today? Who will come along in the future that may be better?
I'd definitely say Tiger is the best golfer of his time.

NO DOUBT, he has perfected nearly every part of his game and i dont think anybody has ever dominated the way he has, i no there's rumors out there that say he's only dominating because of the new equipment but is the rest of the field still using persimmons I DONT THINK SO, hes most definitely the best golfer ever

At this point in his career, I would have to put Tiger in the top 3 with Bobby Jones and Jack. There is no question that the competition in Tiger's era has been much deeper than ever. But, I think it is much too difficult to compare players in such varied generations.

I've been watching golf since the Johnny Miller domination days. I've seen alot of great shots on the tv.

Tiger hits shots people dream about hitting. He always seems to have the perfect distance control. His short game is excellent. He drains putts from 6ft more than anyone else. If he could get his tee ball more in the fairway he would be even more awesome. But its not easy hitting 20 yard wide fairways, when you are ripping it 340 off the tee.

Not in my mind. Doing what he is doing against today's competition makes Jack's accomplishments pale in comparison. Tiger could retire today at 13 majors and he would still be the greatest to ever play. Go ask Jack, I'm sure he will agree.

He really is starting to get to the point where there is no argument whatsoever. Of course, you cannot take away the feats of Jack Nicklaud, Sam Snead, Tom Watson or Arnold Palmer. However, Woods is about to put himself on another stratosphere.

The only thing he has left to do is pass Jack.
