x-plane dot com. You can download the full simulation but you can only run it for something like ten minutes.

The pull down menus allow you to set the control keys under (I think) settings-joystick/controller. You can set keys to be anything, you can also use the autothrottle to set your speed, which is useful when inexperienced and landing. Flaps are on 1 and 2, B will set the brakes but probably burst the tires too, a better alternative is to set the autobrakes. Take the 777, it's easy to land, drop the fuel down to 60,000 pounds (settings-wight and balance) so you can slow to about 135-140kts just before landing. Most airports in the world are included. In the rendering options set full screen, I also set the native resolution of my LCD screen.

Much, much better than FSX and you can download more aircraft for free (or pay for the pro aircraft) at x-plane dot org. I like landing the A380 on smaller commercial airfields, but then I have the paid version so I can fly it from California to Australia or Europe in realtime if I feel like it. I like landing at Boston (KBOS) and Anchorage Ted Stevens airport (PANC).

flightgear is the best free flight simulator.

however, it's quite rubbish compared to the biggies - x-plane and flight simulator X.

if you want a cheap way out and just want to practice landings and take-offs, you can download the demo version of x-plane from x-plane.com and use it. the demo version only allows the use of a joystick for five minutes - enough to practice a landing or takeoff.

would recommend that you go in for a licensed copy - it's completely worth it.

An ok grade free flight simulator is flight gear. It is all free and is pretty fun. You can use a joystick or just the arrow keys.
